Re: Freshwater Pump Help!!!

I would think that rapid cycling is accumulator tank problem.
It is either what Thumbs Up said, which is very likely or there is a blockage before the accumulator tank.
Try running the system...

Re: Rocna Anchor Failure

The shackle is too small for this chain and is mounted incorrectly.
Shackle must always be one size bigger then the chain.
For example 10 mm chain should have 12 mm shackle.
That is why anchor...

Re: Chain Markers

I use stripes of fabric (5cm X 1m) tied with a simple knot every 10m.
It is free, easy to do and now after 8 years I am about to replace the first two. Red is no longer red due to UV light and salt...

Re: Catalina/Beneteau/Hunter/Jeanneau good enough for coastal cruising?

The answer is YES. They are capable of coastal cruising and crossing the oceans.

There are more Beneteaus crossing the oceans every year then .....(insert any of your favourite true blue water...

Re: Adding a weight on anchor chain

If you need it for 3 months and will not be sailing during this time you can go to some marina in Spain. Some are dirt cheap during the winter session. I paid 8 EUR daily rate for 47 feet boat. I did...

Re: welding anchor chain

I have 50m of 10mm chain which started to rust, so I gave it re-galvanised.
All looked OK, the links did not stick, to my untrained eye all looked nice. After a while, I noticed one link developed...

Re: How good is the Rocna?

Lodesman, try to understand Dockhead's posts, because he is correct.

If you prefer practice over theory then make two experiments:

One is with your two balls on 10m depth. As you are diver you...

Re: Buying a boat in Croatia

This is not true.

Croatia is in EU, but is not in Shengen.
Montenegro is not in EU at all, and therefore can not be in Shengen either.

How does this fact affect you as a sailor:
Going from...

Re: Linking Fresh Water Tanks?

To me it does not make sense.
1) Watermaker must be run regularly, if you have two you have to run two of them.
2) Twice the price
3) Twice the space needed

To me Water-maker is not essential...

Re: Skeg or Spade?

As you mentioned H&R: They are definitely designing cruising boats, not racing boats. They are not build to cost point (like by Bene is) but to quality and safety.
Yet, they used skeg rudders in...

Re: Cabin heat from engine

All math aside: You have a sailboat. So I would think you use sails. Light use of the engine confirms this.
So, after a nice day of sailing you sail into the anchorage.
You start the engine, drop...

Re: Lepanto Marina, Monfalcone

There was a boatyard in the same chanel where they had launched performance sailboats with...

I watched the video.
I looks to me there is some white spot (no antifouling) where rudder enters the hull.
This might be part of shaft visible or damaged hull.
I think it is possible they might...

Re: Trans-Atlantic Crossing: Leave Bermuda or Antigua?

I went from Antigua to Azores - second week in May.
I studied a lot, but only did it once, so my experience is limited.
Observations:
We took a lot of fuel (2 X 200 l in tanks, + 100l in cans.). ...

Lanzarote is also not a country, but for some of us it was quite clear about the route in question.
One can not make one week hops acroos Atlantic and change crew during crossing.

Good info. It would be even better if you would get units correctly:
..., but it's likely to be around 5A per fridge for around half the time, so a total of 120Ah per day for two fridges.

Re: Better way of charging batteries?

Let us assume a 500 Ah 12V bat. bank.
If you want to solve last 10 % of charging you need 50 AH for this..
The smaller KBI booster stores 35 kJ = less then 1 Ah at 12V.
So you need more then 50...
