Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

I almost bought this boat some years ago - she is "basic", but I still wish I had done so.

For general information, she was built for/by Mike Butterfield in 2002.
She competed in the 2002 RWYC...

Re: Bargain boats: hurricane-damaged, long-forgotten, what have you

The plan as stated ie: ship to Turkey for repair/refurb and "sell into the local market" is a non-starter.
I won't re-iterate the very valid points above with regard to values or costs etc. but...

Re: Should I avoid this boat?

OK so I did read both.
This for me is a red flag - from the survey:
B.1 Recommend hauling the vessel to let dry and treat the exposed wood, apply epoxy primer and re paint all wetted surface

Re: Keel/Bilge area crack/Stern impact?

Sorry to all the honest brokers, but in general the broker's word is worth less than the paper it isn't written on.
They don't know the history of the boat, only the PO does. The broker only knows...

Not a lot of help I know, but I did mine in the water, tied along side in the marina - didn't heel very much.
Good Luck

Re: Contact lenses/Glasses

I am short sighted, but if wearing both contacts have found I need readers for close work. I found using only 1x contact (1 eye corrected, 1 eye short) to be idea for 99.9% of the time. Brain just...

To answer some of the questions.

I use flat pouch cells each rated at...

Re: NEW Dimension - LTO Battery from GWL Power

For what it's worth at this point,
Ii am running a LTO bank in my cat. I have gone with a 5S design at the moment, although that may change.
My cells are 2.4v nominal so 5x = 12v - this is on the...

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

It is indeed, complete with the larger 18HP engines

Most of what she need is a little TLC. to be honest the wiring was the worst pile of Cr*p I have ever seen, but on such a simple...

Re: Hot water tank for liveaboard

Well, I'm not sure I am qualified to offer advice but my hot water tank is around 80 Liters (possibly more), with w fresh water capacity around 220liters.
Yea it's overkill, but the price was right....

Re: Cheap Multis and Projects

Thanks Cherod,
I look forward to meeting you at some point, to compare boats.

She does go like sh*t off shovel, so to speak, even with very tired sails - a new main is on next year's...

Re: Catamaran keel feet / shoes

Re: Catamaran keel feet / shoes

Prout often fitted hardwood keel shoes to most of their models. Given that they were designed and built to dry out, it makes sense.
I have a Beneteau Blue 2, and it has stainless steel keel bands...

Re: Prout Quasar 50 Rebuild

If 250K for a Prout 50 floats your boat, then by all means.
However fully rebuilt versions don't run that high.
Remember this is a 34+ year old boat, and while I personally love the old Prouts, but...

My understanding is that it is foam core.
Unfortunately the original brochure doesn't actually say.

Taken from a reputable vendor of such products:

Re: Prout 50

Definitely a Prout Quasar. If she is indeed 1996, that would make her the Espace version, but I can't tell from the front.

Hi Cherod,

Hope you made it back ok - not heard anything from you lately.
