Re: Custom Deck Cover?
The main trick of sewing is to learn to sew a straight seam, with learning about thread tension a close second. Anyone with steady hands and normal eye-hand coordination can learn to sew a straight... |

Re: New vs used
Ah, the bugs, due to my own ignorance about sandflies, I once had over 600 (where I quit counting) sandfly bites, on my legs, and it was quite unpleasant! @cemdev, looking forward, the dog will... |

Re: New vs used
Unfortunately, even brand new boats fresh from the factory, do have problems that need taking care of in their first year, a fact that is very disappointing to new owners, but should be anticipated. ... |

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe
Open CPN is fine, if the charts are. Never had a problem from that, but have, from incompatible datums, or too old charts (surveyed in Cook's time). Some places are not well charted. Do note... |

Re: Custom Deck Cover?
People either sew them themselves, or have a canvas shop make them. I would suggest using acrylic canvas (does not have to be the Sunbrella brand), and anywhere there will be chafe, to stitch on... |

Re: Coral spawning
Hello, Mark, I don't know how hard it would be for you to do, but having the project contact the marinas for getting the word out among the cruisers, the active boaters there would be one way to... |

Re: Articles. What types of articles do you like to see in magazines?
NO, IronE, "atricle" almost sounds like a relative of "ventricle." It was a failure to proofread. Those of us who used to have to write, learned to proofread, too. Apparently proofreading is... |

Re: Best way to get adhesive from peel and stick velco off the hull
You can also use acetone, it will not damage gelcoat, but will lift paint. The fumes aren't good for you. Wash your hands and any other skin it got on when you're finished. It will eat plastic... |

Re: Please (try to) avoid sailing/transiting through race courses
Hi, DragonflyBob, I am thinking that your club, especially for national events, needs to target the sailing community, possibly by notices to mariners. I am guessing, but I would think that if... |

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe
MMMmmm. Yes, my Mom had a proverb about this: He who saves, finds. Of course, keeping ourselves comfortable does seem to increase in importance, with the years. Ann |

Re: Running engine at anchor for hot water - load
For showers, so was ours. It was "normal." Didn't feel "like camping." Those times are so very gone. Ann |

Re: Articles. What types of articles do you like to see in magazines?
Thanks for a very interesting thread, guys. We really need to understand that most cruisers never go far away: we are a very small population, and there's a paradox with it, too, in that we... |

Re: jib leech getting trashed by staysail stay
Hi, maury, You mentioned the leech had been previously repaired. How old is the sail? (It may not be worth fixing. Beyond 8 yrs., polyester sails --dacron sails--tend to get soft and not be... |

Re: Newcomer question - how to begin?
In what respects was it a mistake, Sean? Yes, you had bureaucratic problems in NZ, but you managed to circumnavigate on your own terms. This is sorta like a blessing. Ann |

Re: Rename or not?
Jim has re named both of our last two boats. I'd say if you are okay with the present name, and it is quick to spell phonetically on the VHF, keep it. If you are not okay with it, or it is time... |

Re: Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse
It must seem like for [bloody] ever to the folks in Baltimore, but I think it is being laudably fast. It is dangerous, tricky work, and good on all of 'em who are helping! Ann |

Re: Cruising and Modern Conveniences- All is good with Universe
It isn't maintenance, per se, that drives people off their boats in most cases, it is their attitude that what they encounter with having to take charge of accomplishing projects that they don't know... |
