Decided to "bite the bullet" and bought a new ZF12-m to replace it. May split the case on the old one, inspect it for rust and determine if I can repair or not for a spare.
Ya, the original owner...

Bronze adheres to epoxy and I like your idea, especially the 4 wood gussets. Simple plan to execute, substantial strength when completed.

Thank you...

Re: Rudder shaft

With further research on rudder tubes it seems that glassing them into the hull is standard procedure. Using a bronze tube is a strong build method. And running it above the waterline is excellent....

Re: Rudder shaft

And those chuckles from the wisdom of a surveyor is what conjures up nightmares in the hearts of "hole in the water" stewards.
The boat although built over 4 decades by the prior owner who is not...

Re: Rudder shaft

Thanks Steve for the link that is informative. I like the concept of my boats rudder tube, bringing the gland up above the water line. It is more about the structural integrity of the supporting...

Re: checking the condition of a diesel in a boat thts been on the hard 2 yrsm

What needs to be done is different depending on what engine it is. I purchased a sailboat once that had sat at the dock for 19 years without use. I made the mistake of thinking I could start the...

Re: The sailing dream - How many people...

I think an obvious predictor of success in being happy cruising in a boat is to look at ones present lifestyle. What makes one happy on shore? materialism? High social networking? Large living...

No corrosion visible at all on the exposed parts of the tank. 90% of the top of the tank is exposed and one side is exposed that was 1/2 way submerged.

I know that the original builder had the...

Re: Windlass decisions

That's good to hear Cheechako, Rawsons are tough unsinkables. Granted there are stories of their hulls surviving being swept up into coastal rocky shores, I want to try and avoid that..

Seemed...
