Re: Sailing Beaufort to Miami -> Bahamas

If you need to schedule two weeks off in advance, then you would have to be pretty lucky to get a good weather window. We used waterway guide a few years ago and were very happy with it. Active...

Re: Marquesas & Camping

Yes when we were at the Dry Tortugas a few months ago there were a few people camping on the island with center consoles. Not sure if you can camp on Marquesas legally but there are definitely some...

Re: where can I leave my catamaran on the East coast for a couple of months?

I would consider renting a mooring to keep your boat on if I were you. It will most likely be the cheapest option besides anchoring and is common practice here in the US.

Re: Close to purchasing my first boat

I’ll second what rbk said, both models are “good bones” but it really depends on how each individual boat was cared for, fitted out, etc.

Re: Blue Wave Dyneema Terninals vs. Splice

I did this on my back stay because it has a ssb antenna spliced into it, causing it to slowing stretch (not sure if you would call it creep?). Every couple months I tighten the turnbuckle a little...

Re: Comparing RIBs to HP air floors

I have one season on my 10’ Achilles HP air floor, it replaced my old caribe 10’ RIB. I think the caribe was a couple inches longer but the Achilles definitely planes with way less effort, I had a 15...

Re: Mooring for two weeks in Rhode Island/Cape cod area this summer

I left my boat in New Bedford for a week last summer, I believe it was Popes island marina. The harbor is very well protected and has hurricane gates. Cuttyhunk, Martha’s Vineyard & Newport are all...

Re: Yanmar 4JH4E random drop in RPM

Wow, all of the above is great info/advice thank you. The silver lines are showing their age, so definitely a possibility. Hearing that others have had a gunked up pick up with a clean filter is good...

Re: Yanmar 4JH4E random drop in RPM

Thanks, that's definitely possible and I will check but I have two tanks, it does it on either tank and the bottom bowl my racor is spotless. I would think at least some sediment would be getting...

Yanmar 4JH4E random drop in RPM

On a recent trip out my 4JH4E experienced a random drop in RPM while operating at cruising speed (about 2200 rpm). This was a multi day day trip, the day before I had motored about 8 hours no issue....

Re: ICW with 7 1/2 Foot Keel - Piece of Cake

Just did Brunswick GA to Norfolk VA with 6' keel and a broken depthsounder, we strapped a handheld unit to the boat hook as a make shift. Bumped the bottom a couple times but by reading the Waterway...

Re: Two cruising boats missing in the Pacific

A quick google search indicates your chances of dying in a car crash during your lifetime are 1 in 114. So I would argue driving the freeway is more dangerous.

Re: Got a plastic classic?

Thanks b! Good tip on the acrylic window replacement, might be worthwhile to get done while I figure out the hard dodger.

That Hans Christian dodger looks great (so does the boat too)! I was...

Re: Virginia to NW FLorida

I'll second the fishing suggestion! I was kicking myself for not having a rod, we went through some places loaded with fish.

I also enjoyed GA, in fact it was one of my favorite areas. It is where...

I just brought my boat up from Brunswick GA Myrtle Beach SC. Final destination is New England but we'll be making the second leg of the trip late may/June. Brunswick to Myrtle took 6 days.

We...
