Re: Rules of the Road for Swimming with Wild Dolphins

Perhaps those of you who want to cavort with wild animals, i.e. dolphins and the like, should consider dancing with the bears. It makes as much sense.

Re: Rebeding fittings. Best practices?

Coating the mast with paint is a cosmetic application. You can strip the mast and do nothing. Like aluminum boats, no coating is necessary because it will oxidize and that will be the protective...

Re: 3 week Bahamas itinarary

Most of what there is to see and do is located within 10 miles of Marsh Harbour. My first concern would be the limitations placed on the vessel's range by the cruising company. In other words, will...

Re: Help please. Application for vessel identification number

You can register your boat in the state where the boat is located. Documentation is different as it is U.S. Coast Guard and a federal process. Unless you are leaving the US for ports beyond the...

Re: Does Solar trump Wind Generators these days?

How much solar charging do you get when sailing at night. My wind generator produces enough to run all the electronics including the radar and autopilot. I have both as practical, complimentary...

Re: Best heater

If you are staying in DC, I would invest in either an Espar or similar diesel heater. It uses the same fuel as your boat so you don't need a secondary storage facility. If you are passing through,...

Re: Coppercoat Application

Re: rough idle on Caterpillar 3208 Suggestions?

I would suspect that one of the injector nozzles is clogged or leaking causing the roughness at idle. It may provide sufficient fuel at higher rpms but not enough at idle.
While the engine is...

Re: Beneteau 393 vs Island Packet 35

The real truth of the matter is that more than 90% of your time aboard is at anchor. Which boat is the most comfortable to live on. Do you plan to have company? If so, it is nice to have separate...

Re: Harbor or harbour fees

Your question is rather broad and so is the answer. It depends on the harbor and the marina. Check with the harbor master in whatever port you enter as to the procedure or with the specific marina.

Re: Salinas, Puerto Rico .. clearing in?

Since you will be sailing past Ponce, why not stop there and check in? It is an easy port to enter and leave and not significantly out of the way (perhaps six miles in and out).
