Re: Eddie Miller from New Mexico

As posted in a San Carlos forum, Eddie fell off either a dinghy or a kayak, hit his head and drowned. Someone will be caring for his dog.

Re: Which marina in Southern California for 6 to 8 months?

Best choice in my opinion is Peninsula Yacht Marina in Channel Islands. Talk to Glenda. Plus it’s right out on the point, best spot in the harbor. Around 40 miles to Calabasas.

Re: Painting over existing Kiwigrip

I put down kiwigrip a year or so ago. The difference in shades of white to non-textured areas didn’t look right to me and I decided I’d paint over everything later. Now I’m finding the small bubbles...

Re: Portable Honda Generator Alternative

No mention of the Champion 2000w. I got one at Home Depot for $350 and it’s excellent. Great service if needed. Wouldn’t buy any genny w/o econo mode. I also heavily use a Predator but nothing comes...

Re: List of all available options for wind instruments?

I got a DigitalYacht WindSense and am quite happy with it. I like seeing wind data on iPad or phone from anywhere on the boat. Seemed to be lowest cost instrument as no display needed. Completely...

Re: Change Color Of Hulls With Vinyl?

I did my transom with a dark blue carbon fiber (look) vinyl two years ago. To my surprise it did not peel off at the edges although I did paint over the edges. It has faded considerably but I’m...

Re: Entering USVI with European passport

Firstly, Customs in Cruz Bay is, or was up to yesterday closed and check/ins have to be done in Red Hook, St Thomas, close to American Yacht Harbor or by Havensight in Charlotte Amalie.

Secondly,...

T-mobile in USVI info desired

For me AT&T has worked very well in and around USVI, particularly St. John where I spend considerable time.

I'm considering a change to T-mobile for use in Mexico but they aren't very optimistic...

Re: Making carbon fiber spar from chop strains

I think that if I wanted to do this I'd start at sollercomposites.com where you can get CF sleeve and heat shrink (goes up to 10" dia). Slide the sleeve over any suitable core (PVC and ABS might have...

Re: Frigibar evaporator unit won't stay running

I simply ran a jumper wire from the power connection at the compressor to the battery bank. Since that worked I ran an independent wire from a 12v distribution lug with a fuse in the line. I haven't...

Re: Frigibar evaporator unit won't stay running

I had a very similar problem. Turned out to be too much resistance or something like that through the breaker or wiring. Didn't trip the breaker but suddenly the compressor wouldn't run more than a...

Re: Best place to buy in the Caribbean?

There's a Hunter 34 in Coral Bay, USVI that's very reasonable. US boat, pretty well equipped. May have a new engine. PM for contact info.

I've used 1/4" coated Vectran as the main halyard for the past two years with no downside other than it is slippery and requires a few extra turns on the winch.
