Re: Downflooding in Catamarans

There are offshore catamarans, and charter party boat catamarans, both very well designed for their purpose, which is not the same.
My 44ft cat meets the Class A Ocean standard. Without listing all...

Re: Insurance - Country of Residence or Flag?

Neither the tax residency or the flag of the boat is the issue.
Insurance is a contract between an Insurer and you (ie, personally or company, etc...). The contract will specify which country laws...

Re: Buying a yacht in Greece to live aboard for a year - May 2019

Support previous comments regarding many good boats (just like in Greece) for sale in Turkey. Transaction settlement can be conducted elsewhere. The owner will likely not be in Turkey anyway, that's...

Re: Which engine for my dinghy?

On our 44 cat we use a 11.5" aluminium RIB with 20HP Yamaha 4 stroke. Pull-cord starting in less ideal circumstances can be a challenge for the less experienced or physically strong. Living wild we...

Re: Performance Study: Daggerboards & Fixed Keels

Particularly in windier conditions, I would have thought the leeway hull would always bury deeper than the windward hull. So depending on whether that was port or stb, there would be a different in...

Re: Performance Study: Daggerboards & Fixed Keels

Dare I say, I think it's a very balanced article. The author is comparing an efficiently keeled cat, verse the same dagger-boarded (always down) cat. Results predictable and significant, not only for...

Re: Multihull Weight Saving Stratagies

Ted Clements is the designer of the 42, and also did all the research and development of the 2 foot extension. Very experienced and knowledgable guy from all the communications I've had with him. But...

Re: Multihull Weight Saving Stratagies

Antares PDQ was originally designed, built & multiple vessels sold as a 42. Then they added 2 foot so it's now a 44 with many more units launched at this length. So this has been a very successful...

Re: Performance Cat makers?

My 44 Antares is definitely a comfortable cruising cat, which in the right conditions I have pushed to 10-12 knot hourly averages. However, more realistic are 5 - 10 knot hourly averages. But with...

Re: When is the right time

Buy a small cheap mono asap to build experience on the water. If you buy well, and look after it, you'll be able to sell it again without great loss. Something under 30 feet can provide good amenity...

Re: Sydney to Perth over top end of Australia

Just looked at the Manson Supreme, and it looks a lot like its a knock-off of the NZ designed Rocna, our primary anchor. Have 2 others aboard, Fortress & CQR (our original primary). The Rocna out...

Re: How do I mark anchor chain?

The key is for novices (I don't use it). Once they've used it a few times, they know the simple sequence of Red - Yellow - Green. The long flashes of colour are 10's, the smaller ones the 5's in...

Re: How do I mark anchor chain?

Neglected to mention, an anchor chain marking key is laminated on the underside of the anchor race cover, which is normally open during anchor evolutions. And is located on the foredeck, where a...

Re: How do I mark anchor chain?

Found the coloured inserts (Red/Yellow/Green) more durable than plastic ties, particularly around rocky-reefy bottoms.

5m - 5 Red
10m - 10 Red + Red Canvas Strips with "1" written in white paint...
