Re: Heat Set Dyneema
If you look at the elongation graphs for HS dyneema.........keeping the load below around 10% breaking strain, there will be no appreciable elongation. Once over 20% of breaking strain elongation... |

Re: Heat Set Dyneema
Maybe I'm reading this incorrectly....but how did the splices make your stays 4'' longer? Splices usually shorten the stay. Did you splice them too long? When I did mine, I got them to within... |

Re: DIY Bridle
Have closer look! The only whipping is hard against the thimble. The dark patches 1/2 way along the long splice is the heat melted ends of the two splices that form the long splice, an eye splice... |

Re: Windvane that can go off centerline
If you go the same route as I did using a hydrovane, you will need to pull the fuel tank to gain access to the inside of the transom for the backing plate/block. Not a bad thing as I cleaned it out... |

Re: splicing tools for large lines
I use hollow fids for any single & double braid to about 16mm, open fids for any laid or 8 plait rope up to about 100mm and solid spikes and open fids for wire. |

Re: New lifelines - open-bodied vs tubular turnbuckles?
Thanks for your reply Jedi. The fuzziness is from dragging the dyneema through the staunchion holes, it was a tight fit. Probably should have used 6mm😁 |

Re: Another dyneema line failure
Your 10mm backstay should be around 8600kg BS. It may be higher depending on the grade and manufacturer. The ram has the power on the 2:1. As I said earlier it only needs 5450 kg force to break the... |

Single braid dyneema does not have a core! It is made up of 12 sets of fibres plaited together. Heat set dyneema (Dynice Dux etc.) does not like being load cycled as used in your application, it... |
