Thumbs up Re: Autopilot from scratch

This is the first I've heard of a trim-tab windvane. I did a short Google on it, and the ones I'm seeing off the hop are for transom mounted rudders. My rudder is at least 3' forward of the transom....

Re: Autopilot from scratch

Also, when looking up rotary drives the power produced is stated in kg/m. Any ideas how to calculate what is required?

Re: Autopilot from scratch

Doing a bit of research, and with the advice of you guys (thanks:)) I'd like to explore the rotary drive option, but all I can find is units for boats up to 40' and 24000 lbs. Mine is a big a** 43',...

Re: Autopilot from scratch

I get where you're coming from, but I'm not sure what is actually practical. I don't have a conventional steering quadrant, so a linear drive is not an option, (nor most windvane types of steering as...

Cannabis possession on a boat (Official rules for cruising in Ontario Canada)

When legalization was finally implemented, I decided to contact the Government of Ontario to get clarification on the rules for cannabis possession on a boat.

It is basically the same rules as it...

Re: Perkins 4.236 dpa hydraulic fuel pump leak

Thanks Bill. I searched, but all I could find was for the CAV type with the rectangular/ boxy top. I've got a DPA type as apposed to the DPS and haven't been able to find anything. It would be much...

Perkins 4.236 dpa hydraulic fuel pump leak

Got an old Perkins 4.236 that runs like a top. One small problem though. Where the throttle enters the fuel pump I've got a constant slow drip with the engine is running. I'd really like to avoid...

Good timing. :thumb:
I just had the transmission rebuilt, and installed it last weekend. This weekend we're aligning the tranny with the prop shaft, and I'll be starting to replumb the engine over...

Re: Working on an old Perkins 4.236

Is the exhaust through-hull higher or lower than the exhaust ?
Good question... I'd have to check, but I think the exhaust thru hull is higher.
I'm going to have to find the waterline in the engine...

Re: Working on an old Perkins 4.236

Hey John,
Thanks for the info. I've got a copy of the shop manual, operator's manual, and a very cool handbook circa 1972, so I think I'm covered there, what I'm lacking is experience, you don't...

Re: Working on an old Perkins 4.236

The exhaust is about 8 to 10 inches above the waterline facing down just below the transom. I've included a pic. For scale, the pipe is 3" the picture is taken from the hatch in the aft cabin looking...

Re: Working on an old Perkins 4.236

What an awesome idea. The cockpit drain is exposed and goes right through the engine room. Thanks. Solves the problem of where to put the vent AND makes my life easier:thumb:

Re: Working on an old Perkins 4.236

Good point.
I thought it might be water lapping into the exhaust originally due to the fact that I'm stern to one of the main channels, but I pulled off the pipe from the muffler inlet, and laid it...

Re: Working on an old Perkins 4.236

I'm starting to think you are correct. An easy fix really. I've got plenty of headspace in the engine room, and it is directly below the center cockpit, so I can't see doing a proper vented loop of...

Re: Working on an old Perkins 4.236

Hi, the waterline is at least 3/4 up the engine, so I guess officially it is below the waterline. Nope, no vented loop. Where are you talking about? At the exhaust, or on the raw water inlet? Please...
