The boat is stored on the hard and still for sale "cheap"
Looking back, it was definitely and adventure, no keelboat could have gone where we went, and cruising at night is definitely out.

I built a 12meter trimaran out of Aluminium, anything less than 4mm warps terribly when welded. There are advantages with aluminium however my boat came in heavier than planned.

I would not recommend going to West Papua (Irian Jaya) the Indonesians do not want you there.

I would not go to Indonesia without a visa, I met a person who flew into Meurake expecting to get a visa on arrival and he was jailed for two years by the Indonesians.

We travelled though Indonesia two years ago, used Helen of Ambon, very good service. Did not need a bond and were never asked for one. Make sure your Indonesian visa is up to date at All times,...

I was in Merauke August last year, Monohulls with keels are not good here, all shallow mud for miles out to sea. The entrance is difficult at Merauke, look for the large beacon miles out from land....

Merauke, West Papua, frontier town. Immigration took our passports and did not return them for two weeks demanded 1.3million ruphiah and a bottle of scotch. Westerners are not welcome....

I don't know what a KAP chart is but we have just returned from that area and had GPS Cmap charts which were NOT accurate, at all, also the tide charts were totally inaccurate. We were in a 40ft...

I think a visa is needed to avoid problems.

Be aware that in Indonesia, every immigration office intrepretes their rules and regulations differently. Some offices are friendly to foreigners some are not.

I was aware of the 13 week limit, but they track you when you exit through immigration when you leave the country whether by boat or flying.
If you do it more than once they "decide" you are not...

I cannot recommend it.
Mud, shallow water, Papuans, no wind, nobody speaks english at all.
Plus side is cheap fuel...

well if you think Merauke is off the track, try FakFak Irian jaya. No tourists come here. Nobody speaks english and the Internet doesn't work.
We blew up our inverter, I asked a local Chinese store...
