Re: dishes for cruising
I have used Corelle on 5 boats (3 sail and 2 power). Also on 2 RVs. The only time I have every broken a Corelle dish is actually in my kitchen at home. Corelle is durable, heat resistant, and cleans... |

Re: Seattle to Portland Oregon in January
I presume you noticed this is a 5 year old thread so the actual passage happened long ago. As far as I can tell in a search of the archives, docrn did not post a report after he completed the... |

Re: U.S. West Coast "Pirates"
I think calling this "poverty driven crime" is a misleading oversimplification. Every place I know of where property crimes have exploded (including San Francisco), it has been associated with... |

Re: What are your thoughts about fractional ownership?
I think "preferably" is something of an understatement. Anyone who enters into an arrangement like this without a detailed and legally binding agreement has truly taken leave of their senses. Even... |

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee
Perhaps I am just harder to please than some. Several of my friends use Nespresso machines and they (along with K-cups) have become common at hotels and other lodgings that I have visited. Nespresso... |

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee
Two observations. First - old roasted beans (i.e. stale) and poorer quality roasted beans detract from the cup whether they are in a Nespresso pod or other means of brewing. Second - I buy excellent... |

Re: One Dead in Bizarre Accident Aboard Yacht Off Gran Canaria
I have quite a few years experience on sailboats including longer passages in rough weather. I confess that this is a piece of equipment I have never seen aboard a sailboat, and the concept is... |

Re: An Apparently Stupid Way to Make Coffee
Doesn't look like that vulnerable glassware belongs on a boat. Every boat I have ever owned has carried a french press for making coffee. They make great coffee and the double-walled stainless ones... |

Re: Encouraging live aboards
Well, one might say the same thing about the initial cost of a cruising boat. I presume those who can't afford living in an area where the average cost of a home is $1.2 M, don't live in such an... |

Re: Encouraging live aboards
And are your maintainance, moorage, and operating costs 1/40 of that of a house? And is your boat increasing or decreasing in value through time? |

Re: Oregon Hailing Port Opinions
I think "Astoria" would be a good choice at it is at the mouth of the Columbia River and at the Pacific Ocean. It also has a long history and was the first American settlement West of the Mississippi... |

Re: Can one take an endeavor 32 out the Erie with an atomic gas motor
Did you read the earlier part of this thread? The OP already owns an Endeavor 32 with an Atomic 4. He is asking about its capabilities for passages like the Erie Canal and the ICW. He is not asking... |

Re: Can one take an endeavor 32 out the Erie with an atomic gas motor
Your plan sounds workable to me. An Atomic Four is certainly capable of what you describe. My only reservation is your statement that you plan "to give the boat away" if this first stage goes well.... |

Re: Getting a boat in Florida for winter, is that crazy?
Sounds good to me. I boat in the Northwest and BC. A friend has a boat based in Cape Coral (Pine Island area) near Fort Myers. I have visited him frequently. All of my Florida boating experience has... |

Re: Dinghy prop 4 blade super weirdness
A 4 blade prop of the same diameter and pitch as a 3 blade prop is certainly not the same prop. I'm with Rumrace - too much prop. |

Re: Re-chrome or replace hardware?
Very few shops do actual rechroming any longer, and the few that do are specialty shops which are very expensive. Unless precise restoration is critical and you are not overly concerned about cost,... |

Re: New to me radar...raymarine rd418hd 18". Is this decent?
There is no small digital radar you are going to install at any price that is going to predict tomorrows weather or detect plastic crab pot floats among the clutter on the ocean surface. Among the... |

Re: Outboards are incredibly polluting - WOW
Since this issue was raised concerning seafood, the answer is actually - the majority. Yes, avoid netpen raised Atlantic salmon and farm pond raised catfish, but most seafood is not "industrially"... |

Re: Entering Canada in BC from the US
Nope. As of 2 days ago, the Washington Ferry System expects it will return to service in 2023. The system is suffering from a shortage of qualified crew and of vessels. Restoring service to Canada is... |

Re: Dealing with Sailors and drugs.
For those of you who say abusing stimulants is no worse than abusing alcohol - I don't associate with people I encounter falling down drunk at the yacht club either. |

Re: Need help with a bad purchase
The surveyor he used identified quite a few red flags. The primary problem is that the buyer was not listening. |

Re: Need help with a bad purchase

Re: I'm rejected. NEED Insurance
BoatUS/Geico told you they don't insure boats of that age. A longer discussion with them will not change that. Time to see if you can find another insurer. As suggested above, perhaps one that would... |

Re: Need help with a bad purchase
Pay the surveyor. You had a verbal contract with him. He fullfilled his side of the agreement. You ignored everything he told you, and now you don't like the consequences of your actions. Surely not... |
