Re: Temporary Alternative for Bottom Paint?

This is what we do with our props when we go away for any length of time with the boat in the water. A couple of bags over each prop, tied on with a 1/4" dia. string tied with a bow with long tails....

Re: Best places for quiet cheap living

Definitely the right start. In fact, I recommend you do that right now while pondering your plans and options. Join a local saiing club and take their dinghy sailing courses. Knowing how to sail a...

Re: UV protection of DIY Dyneema rigging?

We installed dyneema dux back in 2011. It had no UV protection and we replaced it DIY in 2019. We noted that the lower ends that had heat shrink for about 1 meter coverning the splice itself had zero...

Re: Standing Rig: Has anyone replaced SS wire with Dyneema?

We have had Dyneema Dux on our catamaran since 2011. We are now on the second iteration. This time we covered it entirely with heat shrink so as to prevent UV degredation. It was a big job, but...

Re: Do I Really Need a Life Raft?

A few years ago I inflated our two Spinlock lifejackets at the start of the season. Neither of them inflated at all. In fact, they both had huge holes in them where the bladder joined to the outer...

Re: GPS gviing wrong Date [Solved]

Solved, I think!

There were several steps I had to do to get it working and stable, and they are different for the two pi's

I am still using this as it has...

Re: GPS gviing wrong Date

Some more info. The more I study this, the more confusing it gets.

I did some testing today. Kept the AIS off, so there was just one GPS receiver, going directly into the VHF and then from there...

Re: GPS gviing wrong Date

Bill, your assumptions are all correct and your solution is excellent, except for one thing. Everything comes in to the Pi by USB (or wifi) as a single source from the Quark, so OpenCPN cannot...

Re: GPS gviing wrong Date

The data flow is pretty simple:

NMEA from the GPS goes by bare wires to the Standard Horizon Matrix 2000 radio (so that we can turn it on without firing pu the charplotter).

From there it goes...

ok, no problem. Thanks for enlightening me.

I don't suppose there is a way to edit the date field on the fly? Presumably it is a constant offset.

Re: GPS gviing wrong Date

The GPS is a Standard Horizon 'smart' gps. Not sure of the model number.
Never thought of a a firmware update. That would certainly do the job if I can find one.

Alternatively you could replace it with Dyneema Dux which has no problems with crevice corrosion etc.

And while you are at it, replace the terminal fittings with titanium.
