Re: Sat2Chart

First, OpenSW, Welcome to CF! Hope we can help you out.

In SAS, go to Settings, Map Settings, & under Internet (top) run the Max Concurrent Requests up to some high number, like 50, & close the...

Re: Painting Yanmar saildrive

Don't paint that area.

For the anode to work correctly, it has to be in intimate electrical contact with the leg. It gets some of that from the bolts, but it really wants to touch the aluminum leg...

Re: Open Source Arduino Alternator Regulator

In fact, I think you could simply ramp the field current up & note where the alternator output flattens out, & take that as the maximum alternator output. This would eliminate the user having to...

Re: Open Source Arduino Alternator Regulator

"-requires some user knowledge to fill out the feed forward table..."

Would it make more sense to make this table proportions of the nominal alternator maximum output?

That is, the user would...

Re: Open Source Arduino Alternator Regulator

Catamarans usually have multiple engines, & some engines have multiple alternators (we happen to have both, so 4 alternators).

It would be nice if multiple controllers could talk to each other,...

Re: 9 blade impeller versus 12 blade impeller

We find that the Yanmar impellers last almost 1,000 hours in our 4JH2E Yanmars, but the 12-bladed imposters last about 200 hours. I guess you get what you pay for...

Re: Help / FAQ

A user on the FB OpenCPN Users (https://web.facebook.com/groups/2405863179652854/) forum has found a bug:

If you click the "Change Color Scheme" button on the left once (medium dark) then the text...

Re: Open Source Arduino Alternator Regulator

I believe that N-Type is the European standard, but I've never come across it myself. Of course, I've never cruised Europe, either.

The other Arduino regulator has a pretty simple circuit for...

Re: Open Source Arduino Alternator Regulator

"Laser cut wood enclosure"? Really? Wouldn't plastic be better on a boat? Oh, I see, you're tired of plastic. We've had lots of issues with wood (although your photo looks cool, if a bit elaborate)....

Re: Sat2Chart

Hi Phil. Yeah, I've mentioned this to Paul. The plugin isn't necessary & the warning can safely be ignored. If you want, you can copy the C:\SAT2CHART\SAT2CHART.V17.0.0.2\ge2kap_V17_pi.dll
into the...

Re: Open Source Arduino Alternator Regulator

I'm pretty much with Bellinghamster. 12v primarily, maybe 24v/48v if it's easy, but I don't think there are many DIYers out there going high, & cost is a primary concern. Having said that, as an EE,...

Re: Open Source Arduino Alternator Regulator

To be honest, no, not really. There's a fair amount of discussion about this on the Lithium Batteries on a Boat FB forum, but no real sources that I'd trust. My phone certainly stops at 85%, to...

Mark, I don't think it's proprietary. Al abandoned this project to help start WakeSpeed, but left it in the public domain AFAIK.

First, there's a Google Groups discussion at...

Excellent project, Mark! :thumb: But just to be clear, you don't actually talk about your intended charging algorithm.

I started looking into algorithms after I once blew up a $3000 bank of...

You're right, & I wasn't really advocating for just Z18, Warren. As I mentioned above, everyone has their own priorities when making their charts.

But I'm making mine for others to use as well,...

Not sure what you mean, Terry. Before switching to mbTiles when OpenCPN v5 came out, we used fields of KAPs at some high resolution, & I could & did cover as much area as I wanted. This is pretty...

Re: Sat2Chart

Terry, you & Bruce (& Sherry) are all concerned about file size. And that's fine. Make your charts the way you want them.

I have a different philosophy, & feel that hard drives are pretty cheap...

Interesting to hear this, Miyalk. We're trying to decide which of the 14 different types of CMap charts to include in the final release, since 14 is more than most folks want to deal with.

Re: Help / FAQ

You're welcome, Steve.

Our charts don't exactly "overlay" other charts, but by using "Chart Groups" you can quickly switch between charts with just a single keystroke. This is MUCH easier than...
