Re: Pulley alignment; serpentine belt dust

I got the Gates alignment tool (https://amzn.to/49DTRRX).

not too expensive.

HOWEVER - the grooves on the tool are made for automotive pulleys, not the 10 groove on the balmar pulley. you can...

Re: Pulley alignment; serpentine belt dust

when using the Alt Mount on my Yanmar, I went through a few belts when I realized the pulleys were not in line. off about half a rib maybe. Also the paint and roughness on the crank was enough to...

Re: ZF 15 MA Hurth - stiff shifting

They were replaced, and had the pedestal controls serviced , which fixed the problem. Still, needed to change the fluid, was pretty bad!

Re: ZF 15 MA Hurth - stiff shifting

thought of that. might do it that way from now on. If I do it more often, but do partial changes, might be better than a bi-decadal fluid change!

Re: ZF 15 MA Hurth - stiff shifting

Just a follow up to this thread.

Changed the transmission fluid today! First time since it was installed (2001)!

Yea.. it was due!

Guess I will not wait 2 decades (well 15 seasons of use)...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

could be. First time this kind of fouling has ever happened. Usually it is pretty clear other than slime.

I reaaaaly feel the alternator when it is in bulk mode! when it is in float, feels a lot...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

I didn't know until the boat came out of the water. Also this is the first time in 15 years I ever saw that kind of string/fur fouling. Usually it is just slime at worst

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

yea, never seen hairy growth before. Usually it is just slimy and a couple pieces of hard growth (comes off easily). The hair came off easily too, but I am sure it did not help the situation!

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

catching up on this topic...

when the boat was pulled, the prop had 'hairy' growth on it and some slime, very minor hard fouling. prop has pettit zinc paint on it, prop is a maxprop. (see...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

that was pretty much going to be my plan.. do the past due maintenance..

should be pretty easy to rotate the engine with no compression while the injectors are serviced.

At idle the engine...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

I had larry too, we didn't pull them, however. He was a great instructor! Best money I have spent on the boat! I was sad to hear of his passing too!

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

Yea, after looking at some videos of people trying to remove the chambers, it looks like it is not fun or at least the potential is there! with the low hours on it, I think it is a good gamble not to...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

Haven't done anything to the engine other than normal oil and filter changes.

How does one inspect the pre-combustion chambers? The injectors have never been out of the motor.

I have seen on...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

500 hours for injector testing and valve adjustment .

Only get the black smoke when pushed and the engine appears to bog down (over 1500-2000) when cold. Not surprised either. No smoke at idle,...

Re: Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

The service interval is 500 hours. At double that now. My thought was if there was not a good spray pattern, would not get good performance when cold, when warm, the warm engine would help compensate...

Question Yanmar 3GM30Fe low power when cold

This season, I noticed after starting my 3GM30f (e) engine, circa 2001 that it has low power for about 10-15 minutes. I can't get it over 2000 rpm in gear, If I push it, starts to eject dark smoke...

Re: System redesign to drop in LFP

My original question was what Balmar told me, that is might be possible , although likely rare, for a BMS to shut down just because the batteries got full, since drop ins don't communicate. They...

Re: Connecting fine wires

very small wire is a pain.. I usually use a wire stripper, not this model (first that came up on google!) , but something similar. Seems to do a good job of not damaging the wires inside...

Re: Connecting fine wires

My old Raymarine ST50 had a junction box with a euro-strip to connect the wires. there are other methods as well.

I too have done the 22ga butt connector, folding the wire over a couple times to...

Re: System redesign to drop in LFP

The point he was making, and what I am worried about, which may be an irrational fear... is that once the battery gets 'full', not over charged, just 'full', there is the possibility the BMS will...

I just assumed they did, when I started this thread, more I dug in, I realized there is a potential problem !! I initially thought, just wire the regulator to the battery BMS.. only to find out that...
