Re: inner forestay

Re: Which dinghy motor would you pick?

Re: About NOT power setting the anchor

Re: There is a special place in hell for SOB's that do not secure their halyards

There is no special place in hell required; the good lord created a special place by bereaving the living thus targeted of the simple ability to tolerate small discomforts and then imbuing them with...

Re: Oil filled steel stern tube: a good alternative to typical shaft/stern tube setup

thanks for the explanation - makes sense and it sounds like quite a clever development to the greasegun system. what type of oil does your system use - ie 30 engine oil, 80 gear oil?

Re: DIY clean hull without diving

Re: Oil filled steel stern tube: a good alternative to typical shaft/stern tube setup

your setup sounds uncommon for sailboats but similiar to the grease pump system on some older boats - mine for example - the stern tube is quite long and is fed by a simple automobile style hand...

Re: Swing mooring and anchor

quiet night, woken up 2am-ish by something, up on deck, to find I'm drifting slowly towards the next boat in the mooring field...I probably shouldnt have tied up to a mooring ball with a pretty good...

Re: Marine grade or regular oil for old diesel?

you can use anything, including cooking oil, as far as I'm concerned, if you change it regularly. (I know - its the internet and there IS someone out there who'll take this at face value - caveat...

Re: Heaving-to myths.

my boat forereaches under bare spars in really bad weather, wouldnt dream of having enough sail up to heave-to. I mostly use heaving to when lowering sail to enter an anchorage, to make necessary...

Re: Reflections on Seamanship

these sorts of discussion always seem to choose such a narrow focus as to make them irrelevant. How does seamanship become whether the gps system has stopped working. If there are any commercial...

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???

the good old 'how long is a piece of string' question; some cats (and tri's) have truly awful upwind sailing characteristics (I know, i had a tri that could barely manage 85* on a header, easier to...

Re: Consider buying a Bruce Roberts

dont compare a 'Bruce Roberts' label to manufacturers labels - there is no consistency in bruce roberts designs because most are built by owners. Having said that, I've nothing but praise for the...
