Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Thanks, Pavel,
I'll have a look when my data is better. We sailed from Tobago Cays to Canouan ( yes, eat your heart out) and I got most things working by dumping my two NMEA connections and starting...

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

We are leaving port and internet now. I'm guessing that the default sentences when setting up the filter aren't everything, and I need to go find other sentences to add to allow in the filter? Do you...

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

HDG doesn't help with wind data, depth, and STW on the dashboard plugin.
Why does establishing another COM 3 allow the data, but it doesn't come back when I close and reopen the program? Also, I was...

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Pavel,
There must be a bug.
I have AIS coming in on COM4, all NMEA data on COM3, and LAN for Radar.
If I add a second COM3 connection to OCPN, and allow all sentences, I get back wind data,...

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Thanks for the quick reply, Pavel!
I don't get depth, wind info, or STW.
Removed all port connections and reestablished. no change. Also, radar overlay is not correct, or ownship direction.

Re: OpenCPN Version 4.0 Released

Help! We upgraded to 4.0
Previously, Dave was a lifesaver to help us get the correct own ship and radar overlay orientation on the previous beta version by ignoring the proper NMEA sentences. We had...

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Kona, while I'm thinking about it, when you do get the above sorted out, you need to have the radar power applied, and the on/off switch you installed must be ON before firing up Open CPN. BDBCAT...

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Ok Kona, I'm not an electrical Engineer, just a lowly mechanical guy who understands little about transistors. So I think I can help, since your problems seem hardware related at the moment. The...

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Kona,
We are enjoying our Garmin radar.
But it wasn't easy.
Give your particulars, PC, operating system, and what you've done to date. BDBCAT is the Man who can help you. Our issues, that were all...

Re: Feature Requests; long term usage input

The weather routing plugin is due for release any day now. In the meantime there you can build from source or try the one rick built:
File Thingie 2.5.7 (https://www.tgp-architects.com/Ocpn/ft2.php)...

Re: Feature Requests

Well, we are in St. Croix for a few days and I have time to investigate (and hopefully not mess up) all your suggestions. I tried the weather router. Could not get it to work. It even crashed OCPN. I...

Re: Feature Requests

Thanks, I did download the status bar plug in and configure it just the way I like.
Perfect for me! I like being able to reduce the data string to the items I'm interested in. Declutters nicely! I...

Re: Feature Requests; long term usage input

We've literally lived with OpenCPN for the past four months. Cindy and I left Florida in March, on our 'endless summer' cruise. Its July 4th weekend, and we find ourselves in St. Croix, USVI. The...

Re: OpenCPN Radar Overlay PlugIn

Capsud,
We had similar issues. Very frustrating.
Our "aha" moment had to do with the firewall configuration on win 7. Might be the same for win8.
Several firewall options that need to be allowed...

We'll download the latest OpenCPN tomorrow. I assume it has the updated dashboard plugIn?

Hi Pavel,
So did you ever post an update to the dashboard plugin so us archaic Americans can see feet?
I wish we went to the metric system 100 years ago. I can translate, but it makes my brain...

Re: Charts on CD

Thanks for the reply, Thomas,
I saw the huge effort on the 2700 NG chart thread that ended poorly. I hear that this might open up a bit.
Cindy did a bunch of research, and realized that your script...

Re: Charts on CD

I have some old maptech .hdr cds.
They aren't text, but an array of small .pcx files, as I'm told, with a HDR directory followed by chart directories containing for example files M####.A01, to...

Re: Charts on CD

Yeah,
Not quite the answer I'm looking for.
I do have an old version of the Cap'n that can read the .hdr charts, but it doesn't allow AIS, Garmin radar, grib file viewer, dashboard, etc.
OCPN has...

Re: Charts on CD

A mariner relying on only a chart is courting disaster. One mistake that modern mariners make is to not take their eyes from the chartplotter.
Additionally, after a long discussion with a reputable...
