Re: Dive setup, BCD integrated weights vs weight belt.

I prefer the integrated system, but have a separate weight belt that I use for snorkeling. I like to be slightly negatively buoyant to help me stay down when snorkeling.

Re: Let's talk self-tending staysails and booms

I have had my 2007 IP 440 since 2009, when I bought her new. Removed the Hoyt boom last summer with no apparent negative effect on staysail trimming and sail shape. I'm a member of the IP Facebook...

Re: Hurricane Predictions and 5G...Concerning

Having a sailboat in Kemah, TX (just South of Houston), I follow the hurricane season quite closely. With respect to location of the eye when it hits the coast, I believe that all the 2020 Gulf...

Re: Deep cockpit lockers with narrow access - how to best use

I installed one SS mast step to the forward wall of each lazarette to help me crawl in and out. It is the foldable type that flows up so that it is out of the way when not in use. Island Packet 440.

Re: We were attacked by Orcas!!!

I read an article yesterday that several sailboats in the Med near Gibraltar were recently attacked by orcas in a similar manner, i.e. they rammed and bit the rudder.

Re: How to trim an asymmetrical spinnaker?

Thomm225 is absolutely correct. I had my head up my a$$. Ease the sheet until the luff begins to curl up near the head of the sail.

Re: How to trim an asymmetrical spinnaker?

Thomm225,
It's not the luff, it's the leach.

Re: How to trim an asymmetrical spinnaker?

Ease the sheet until the leach starts to curl at the top of the sail, when you are on a broader angle than a beam reach.

Re: How to trim an asymmetrical spinnaker?

You want the leach to curl slightly for the best trim, not the luff.

Re: How Do You Buy a Used Mast?

A lot of people on this site aren’t experts, and just are giving you their opinions. For something as critical and technical as a mast, I would use a high quality boat yard or rigger. Mack Sails, in...

Re: Boating Marco Island to Key West

I've done it on my Island Packet in three day trips. Marco Island to the Little Shark River. River is large and deep. Day two sailed to Marathon Key and stayed in Boot Key Harbor. Day three...

Re: Using an Assy Spinnaker

I've raced with symmetrical spinnakers for 35 years. An easy way to remember where to set the pole is perpendicular to the apparent wind. Then, ease the sheet until you have a slight curl at the...

Re: Noise/Vibration with partially furled genoa

Was your jib leech vibrating? If so, tighten the leech line.

Re: Using an Assy Spinnaker

I attach my tack to the bow roller guard with a snap shackle, which is about 1.5' forward of my jib roller furling drum. I don't mess with an adjustable tack line. It's an Island Packet 440.

I have a 2007 Island Packet with a custom rectangular pedestal. If I measure the circumference, will you have a product that fits?
Thanks.

I have a transceiver on my 44' sailboat. One of the benefits I have enjoyed in addition to the former posts is when I am on the ICW and call a tugboat pushing or pulling a tow. Before AIS, I had to...

Re: Boat Pickup and Delivery

Just my humble opinion.
1. If you have to ask, you are not qualified for a long voyage on a boat that you will not be familiar with.
2. I know a professional delivery captain. He does a close exam...

Re: Dyneema sleeve to protect the snubber

I’m interested in using a soft shackle like some of you suggest. Does it not slip when the tension relaxes on the snubber, for instance when the boat sails from side to side or when there is no wind?...
