Re: Energy recovery from freewheeling prop

Re: Need a NEW Yammer Starter

Re: Navman Tracker GPS antenna compatibility

Well, since none of you replied you don't really deserve the priceless fruits of my wisdom, but FYI the answer is yes - the antenna and the data/123VDC cable are 100% compatible so it's a straight...

Re: Another cutless bearing replacement question (or two!)

Easy to make up a tool using threaded rod and suitably-sized washers and nuts for a well-controlled and easy way to press it in.Cheers, Graeme

Navman Tracker GPS antenna compatibility

I have an old Navman 5430 GPS and am wondering if the GPS antenna would be compatible with a Navman 5100. If so it would save me a bit of money and lots of hassle running a new cable through some...

Re: Dismasting Tools

Watch out for water ingress into your cut-off tool. It will almost certainly have air vents for cooling, and while it might be ok for long enough to cut with rain water getting in there, a very small...

Plastimo 609S Furler Bearings

When moving the furler drum to get at the forestay turnbuckle, I managed to undo the wrong bolts, and watched a dozen or so of the ball bearings abandon ship. They are a mix of stainless and Delrin,...

Re: Handy stuff for pocket cruisers, et al.

Regarding things with multiple uses, ditch the barrier cream and and hand cleaner, and use your SPF 30 or 50. Keeps the grease off as well as the UV! Two less bottles to carry!

Windows close to the waterline in an ostensibly ocean-going vessel.

I need to replace the impeller in my little tender motor, but can't get the lower assembly to come away from the power head. I'm sure this is due to corrosion where the shaft mates in...

Re: Tiller Pilot Locations

One thing to bear in mind if you mount the tiller pilot further from the rudder axis is that the reduced applied rudder angle could mean it takes longer for the boat to respond. During that time the...

Re: How much oohmp (torque?) should I expect from a sailboat?

Wear of the cone mating surface is inherent in the mode of operation, so at some stage you'd certainly need a new one. But the engine and transmission in my boat are coming up to 40 years/2500 hours...
