I used Chris Parker on a recent trip from Florida to BVI. Not free but a great value. His insights were worth their weight in gold.

Re: ACR AIS malfunction

Download ProAIS2 and connect the AIS unit to your laptop via the USB port. This will allow you to see if the GPS is seeing satellites. If it is, you will be able to see the NMEA sentences generated.

Re: Simrad IS11

Wanted to bring this thread to a proper close.

The Simrad depth gauge never materialized so I took a different approach. A handyman from the local Moorings facility sold me a used st50 combo...

Re: Raymarine wheel drive SD6000 issue

Just had the same issue with an identical unit. Mine started misbehaving at the end of a brutal 14 day passage. The symptoms were erratic behavior and a change in both the feel and position of the...

Re: De-sludging holding tanks ? Advice ?

Just went through the same. I have an integral fiberglass tank on a 1989 that has never been cleaned. I filled it with a few gallons of vinegar and beat 1800 miles from Florida to the Caribbean. ...

BTW, happy to pay for technical support. Just can't find anyone locally and don't know where to go on weekends.

Another thought is to use the existing 205mhz transducer with a standalone...

Simrad IS11

Just completed passage from Florida to BVI and unfortunately lost visibility on my depth display along the way. Unit seems to be fine other than 3/4 of the LCD not lighting up. My question is, how...

Re: Two women, one boat, in the Med?

Cruising itself is an alternative lifestyle and in my experience cruisers are very warm, educated, non-judgemental types. You'll both be very welcome out here.

Welcome aboard!

Re: Drydocking in Florida - Recommendations?

Just came through the Okeechobee and met a number of folks who were pulling out for the summer. There seemed to be several on either side of the lake that were popular due to price and great...

Glad to know I'm not alone, Kettlewell. Yep, she has has New York, NY as the hailing port. Very disturbing that the burden is on me to prove it since FL tax and registration have been paid. She...

Re: Honda 2000 not charging my batteries

When the Honda is presented with a large load it will bog down and voltage can drop below 100 volts which might be sending the charger into a fault mode. Try getting the Honda up to speed by turning...

Save your receipts!

NY State just sent me a rather nasty letter DEMANDING past due taxes plus penalties for my Florida registered vessel. Gave them a brief jingle and they're horrifyingly unaware of state...

Re: Bad temp guage or sending unit?

CSY Man, the infrared thermometers are very accurate. One item to note about them though is the spread of their beam. I lent mine to a dockmate diagnosing an overheating issue and he brought it...

Mine is Andromeda. Explanation below:

s/v Andromeda: The Name (https://blog.svandromeda.com/p/the-name.html)
