Re: Steel hull pitting

We’ve definitely got lots of useful advice here, thanks everyone! Sorry for the delay in getting back on here to follow up.

I will have a look at the books you recommend, hpeer and boatpoker (and...

Re: Steel hull pitting

Oh, someone here told us that our stainless water tanks should be isolated from the hull. At the moment they are bolted to (painted) steel tangs. He said he'd been told that the movement of the water...

Re: Steel hull pitting

Thanks for the replies tkeithlu and micah.

tkeithlu, your reply is very interesting; I have never come across aluminium anodes – only zinc for salt water and magnesium for fresh (I must add that...

Steel hull pitting

We have a fairly major problem with pitting of the steel hull plating below the waterline (see photos). It's a good few years since we've been able to find anywhere to haul out. This problem started...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Dave,

Phantom windows seem fixed.
Behaviour is still not perfect but we can play with it more in 4.2...

Iconoships, can you test and see if you have any outstanding major issues?

Some...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Gilletarom,

By "magnetic course" I would understand "COG, in °M".

Heading is not really a type of "course" though it is often translated that way into other languages. (I have seen a Garmin GPS...

"Advance route waypoint on arrival only"...

No, I hadn't used this (though I will now enable it for next time I use a programmed route, which is rarely).

I actually hadn't fully understood what...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Could be. I can't say; I don't have any other versions to test on at the moment.

Do you consider this a release blocker? If not, since a lot of work needs to be don on the windows and dialogs...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

I have a similar problem to that which Iconoships describes, but it affects all non-modal dialog windows (at least sometimes, I'm not sure if it's always...).

For example, if I open the route...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Overzoom effects are much better in this release.
Chart scaled 'like raster' after 10x overzoom.
Options both to disable this scaling and the (reduced) blurring.
(I don't approve of the option to...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2330 Released

Dave,

OS X does correctly report screen resolution somewhere, since it works for native apps. But perhaps wx doesn't pass it on to us... :whistling:
Maybe there is a way to read it directly from...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2330 Released

Yes, I have noticed this problem; on various computers the stated scale is much bigger than the real scale.

Here are some tests from my MacBook Pro, 17" monitor, ~130dpi.

Stated scale 1:5200...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2330 Released

I agree, I think probably the main necessary tweaks are:

- In rotated mode, clicking the icon should revert to north up rather than switching to course up.

- In rotated mode, neither Course Up...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2330 Released

I think it's obvious that the chart is rotated... the problem is, if the user has accidentally pressed [ or ], how should they know how to get back to "normal", and that the rotation is a 'feature'...

Isn't this just the chart rotation feature in action?
Rotation left and right with [ and ], reset to vertical with \.

Maybe the rotation should be reset when closing/opening OCPN,...

Good to see some discussion on the chart blurring overzoom emphasis feature.

I would like to clarify what I said earlier, in case it came across as if I was opposed to this feature......

I think having the shortcut and the menu item do different things would be even more confusing. Perhaps...
