Re: WANTED: Sailing Expertise & Mentorship

Hi Adam, you've got a lot of good ideas here.

My husband and I draw from our 8+ years / 50,000+ miles of cruising around the world to mentor people and help them get "out there" too.

This...

Re: Charter Lagoon 440 Takes on water and flips

Hi Bcs01- I'm the co-captain of svTOTEM; that was my photograph of Zebra Moon that was posted to this forum. Thank you for joining in to share what happened. Making a rapid exit from a sinking boat...

Re: When Good Waves Go Rogue

Pelagic- other half of svTOTEM here. That was still south of Jomard, not towards near Conflicts...we weren't inside yet. I suspect the rapid change in depth was a factor, since it goes from thousands...

Re: want to go offshore but

Hi Andy,

I think it’s healthy to have fears. They’re not unrealistic, and things we all have to deal with, but they aren’t insurmountable either. You can absolutely realize your dream, in that...

Re: Were two German sailors Kidnapped in the Phillipines?

Right- that's the first place I saw it, too, a few weeks ago. But Noonsite is getting their info from the news, which only have this MSU Professor as the apparent sole source of info that they are...

Re: Were two German sailors Kidnapped in the Phillipines?

We're headed to Palawan, and next month we expect to transit near (or through) the area where SV Catherine and her crew went missing.

We don't take the possibility of piracy lightly and scrapped...

Re: Birthing a Bebi

Aussie_Sequoia, I'd love to know whassup with Bebi as well. The message on their website about being shut down and fleeing the country for personal safety is pretty clear. We love our Bebi cockpit...

Re: What is the ideal sailboat for ocean cruising?

Ann Cate is spot on. I'll say: there is no ideal. Most importantly, even with unlimited resources: EVERY boat is a compromise. Anyone who claims an "ideal" boat is naive or... well, I'll just stop...

Re: Question about buying a used boat

It happens, and has the possibility to be a great arrangement if it works, and helps reach a sale, because, well, everybody wins, right? If the broker (or owner) is reluctant, perhaps that's a good...

We did something by much like that in 2010, although we did two day hops west from rainbow reef and departed for Bligh from the west end of Vanua Levu. Doable, yes. The caution is wrt to timing...

Re: Palawan Island, the Philippines

It's true- you can't go everywhere! We're on the "take it slow" path too.

If you're big into diving, it seems a shame to skip Raja Ampat. Whatever you do, whether it's a dip down to dive in Indo...

Re: Misima Island, PNG

There is no reason to go to Misima. Lots of lovely islands in the area. One of our lessons from PNG is to avoid anyplace large enough to have people who migrate there away from their clan/extended...

I realized recently that when many boaters get pressure cookers for the galley, the first thing they learn how to cook in them is beans. That- and 12 minute brown rice (mmmmmm) are definitely one of...
