Nauticat 32 deck core

I am thinking about buying a 1998 Nauticat 32. It has teak decks that worry me.
Does anyone know what type of core is in the deck of this boat? Is it plywood, balsa or fiberglass or other?

Re: 12v vs. 2x6v Batteries for Sailboat

Double 6volt system is not perfect for the house bank. As I said if one battery goes out you are left with only 6 volt system. With two 12 volt batteries if one goes out you still have a 12 volt...

Re: 12v vs. 2x6v Batteries for Sailboat

Yes he will have a start battery but if he uses it for a house bank it is not going last long. Everything will stop working in a very short time.

Re: 12v vs. 2x6v Batteries for Sailboat

If you go with 2-6 volt and one cell goes bad you no longer have a 12 volt system.
If you have 2- 12 volt batteries and a cell goes bad, you still have one 12 volt battery.

Re: Is self steering possible or practical?

Yes that is 2amps. At normal load big seas bigger load. AP’s are good if you have
A big boat with a big battery bank. Not so good on my 27’ boat. 24 amps is a quarter of my capacity.

Re: Sailing without AIS or Radar

I have been sailing 50 years without radar but I will not go offshore without AIS transceiver. To each his own. Get what ever you think you must have. I am sure it will be the best choice for you.

Re: Is self steering possible or practical?

Yes wind vanes are ugly but they get the job done, after all the autopilots bit the dust. Auto pilots, when working consume gallons of watts and amps. Not a good choice for crossing oceans.
