I have used a pressure washer with great results, maybe not practical in remote areas but works many a treat when in home waters.

ck the simplest first. My yanny started showing black smoke...found piece of insulation sucked into air intake...pulled it out problem solved in 5 min. no tools needed.

Holding is spotty in B.I. , place is breezy, so crowded that Sea Tow is constantly chasing boats across the pond (owners on beach or pub). CQR anchor is substandard, 16 feet chain way too little...

Arab dhows......very short masts with huge sprits ,ruled the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea for many years...still in wide use today.
Many smaller dingy type craft with spritsail rigs,etc .,etc.....

yes ,boats going N. from H. rib. usually drop mast at Catskill Yards,But going south I would not drop mast until thru Lake champlain if possible...some lovely sailing and anchorages there.

F=MA......force equals mass times acceleration . Cold air is denser than warm air (i.e. greater mass) so greater force as many here have observed including myself.
And,yes moist air is less dense...
