Re: Prop shaft coupling

May I suggest that if you do not know then hiring a professional who does and is willing to explain the nuances will be well worthwhile since there may be issues of which you will otherwise be...

Re: What is a "cycle"?

Please also note another point that I'd make after many professional decades dealing with real world 'battery' issues.
Many batteries are defective when purchased and do not meet the manufacturers...

Re: More Anchoring Etiquette: should I move?

When I grew up sailing on the West of Scotland it was normal good manners to move if one was on a subsequent vessel and the distance between boats was a bit close. Personally, even if the water is...

Re: checking in with cat in UK Scotland?

The issue is normally that of rabies and the UK normally requires quarantine even if vaccinated I believe.
I suggest that you contact the UK border people or whatever UK customs and excise are...

Re: Tabernacle bolt head stripped

Since the item is a bolt it must have a nut attached at the other end otherwise it would be a partially or fully threaded machine machine screw. Just loosen the nut using whatever is appropriate (...

Re: How can I remove giant flathead screw?

In my experience rotating the screw in an anti clockwise direction usually works well.
In your case you might have to use a screwdriver bit for 1/2" drive system possibly from Snap-On who make and...

Re: Yanmar 3YM20 exhaust diameter

You may be OK and you may not, it depends upon the exhaust back pressure when measured close to the exhaust elbow with the engine under load at rated maximum RPM. If the back pressure is within...

Re: Oil leak around filter

As an ex Volvo dealer for this type of engine.
I suggest that you obtain one of the correct Volvo oil filters for this engine and then correctly install it and top up the engine oil level with...

Re: 3GM30FC fuel lift pump

The first number looks like a typical Yanmar part number.
I recommend that you contact your Yanmar dealer for the correct information although tomorrow is Good Friday around the world therefore you...

Re: Maintenence Costs and charter.

Maintenance typically costs a lot more than most people realise and charter work just makes it all much more extensive because unless the charters are crewed the users are not going to be as careful...

Re: Yanmar YSE12 Governor adjustment

From memory the adjustment procedure is listed and described in the workshop manual and the procedure works well if followed according to the manual.
Good luck.

Re: Nominal voltage of golf cart batts

The fully charged voltage of a nominal 6 volt DC lead acid accumulator or 'battery' is 6.3 V. +-.
For a 12 V. unit it is 12.6 V. or 2.1 V. per cell.
These readings are all after the 'surface...

Re: Minimum boat speed under power

The trick for sailing vessels to achieve ultra low boat speed in gear is to have auxiliary electric drive such as that provided by Beta. It is close to perfect for confined areas.

Re: What is a Ton in Boat Weight

Just to add to the confusion.
A long ton is actually 2,240 lbs. and is based on 20 hundredweight of 112 lbs. each. ( An old UK developed measurement also used by most of the Uk's commonwealth such...

Re: Replacement engine: Volvo or Yanmar? Common rail or mechanical?

Dear Glen,

A rebuild at 50% or less than the cost of new is a repair in today's world not a rebuild.

Re: Replacement engine: Volvo or Yanmar? Common rail or mechanical?

I think that Beta is now tier 3 compliant up to about 105 HP.
They will also easily make custom engine mounts so that the new Beta is basically a 'drop in' mechanically.

Re: stop these compression fitting leaking

Flared copper fittings work very well and are required for gas joints.
No sealant should be used with the flare nut fitting itself.
If you are going to undertake doing your own work with...

For a mooring intended for a multi hulled vessel the multi hull requirements are generally a...

Re: What hp to re-power a 38ft sailboat?
