Port lights

I have two non opening, stuck on acrylic, port lights that I want to replace with opening ones. The holes are approximately 180x850mm. I’ve searched the net but am unable to find anything remotely...

Re: The bare necessities.

Interesting what different people think of as necessities for a sailboat! I might be too simple thinking, but a solar panel attached to a lifeline, wires to a regulator and battery, wires to...

Re: Propeller shaft seal compression amount

Similar to the two pieces of lumber thread, but easier. Try this - measure from the end of the seal to the end of the shaft. Cut a piece of timber (say, 19x30mm) that length less 3/4”. Place a flat...

Maintenance chart

Has anyone done a maintenance chart on a spreadsheet with future dates for gear checks, oil change, etc? I was thinking about making one today as I finished putting a new shaft seal on, but then...

Re: Singlehanded, sailing out the anchor.

Somewhere between three and six months ago “The Rigging Doctor” on YouTube had a whole segment on raising and lowering the anchor single handed. It looked easy and was simple.

Re: Hot water

Gene is a good idea and one came with the boat. May be an issue in a crowded area though. Have read some threads where the ops were complaining about gene noise

Hot water

Our new to us single hull sail boat has a hot water tank heated by the main motor, which I’m not in favour of. The boat has two gas bottles for the stove. We also own a caravan which has two gas...

Re: What boat would you buy?

Some really interesting opinions in all these posts! Realistically the op will be sailing single handed as the lady will no doubt have her hands full with the child when something needs to be done on...

Thanks for the responses. Quite happy to have the Holy Ghost on board, but I’ll pass on any other type thanks Bob! I’ll reread his book again as it was quite interesting - and keep a lookout for the...

Auto pilot

Joshua Slocum’s book, from memory, says that once the sails were set the boat found its own way without outo pilot. I think he said the tiller was immobilised, but not sure. The boat seemed to find...

Re: boat discount if i can pay some of the sum by cash by hand

Most of you didn’t read the op’s comments - “cash by hand / private account”, also it’s a “Charter company” supposedly selling the boat.
Is it safe to do so - probably not to put money into a...

Re: 110v 220v definitions WHY?

Australia is 240. No ever says anything different. I’m currently in Uganda and people say either 220 or 240, but mostly 240. However, the actual can vary from 180 to 280, but is generally around 230...

Re: Construction details of Rudder question after the sailboat sunk at Cowes

The stump jump plough was as Aussie invention. Looks like someone has jumped on a good idea and modified it for boats. Good on them!

Re: FG Advice Needed-Leaking Keel Stub on O’Day 34
