Re: Safety Shore based power

Very interesting read, thanks for that info.

What would be the risk of shock due to nearby lightning strike in salt water? If I am swimming and see a storm approaching I get out of the water - is...

Re: Where's the best place to register my sailboat?

I have been waiting 18 months since registration for Polish MMSI - registration was no problem but MMSI seems to be an issue.

My agent has offered me a British MMSI which is quick and easy, but I...

Re: adaptor for ethernet to usb

Have you set the correct IP address for the LAN adapter to communicate with the radar.

For my Garmin HD (similar to the Halo I believe) i needed to set the IP address to 172.16.1.1

Re: Grey Water Holding Tank Switch(es)

A float switch in the poo-pit won't work for long (probably float up once and never down again), it would need to be some form of contactless level sensor - ultra sonic, capacitive, etc

Re: Wiring an ST60 Raymarine wind vane sensor through the hull

Wrap the plug joint at the bottom of the mast with self annealing tape to ensure integrity- then you're done.

Re: Wiring an ST60 Raymarine wind vane sensor through the hull

I thing you will find some waterproof 5 pin connectors in the NMEA2000 family.

Get a male/female extender, cut it in half, splice each end into your wind sensor cable using your best solder +...

This seems like 1 question but requires 2 answers...

To the 1st part - Yes, I do have experience of that situation.

My yacht sat in a marina berth in Cape Town for several months while...

Re: Yet another seacock question

Any Teflon tape should do, just add the rounds needed to get the coverage and thickness that you require.

More importantly make sure not to mix parallel thread fittings with non-parallel...

Re: ZF68 gearbox free spin when engine is off

It is preferred to have a system to prevent the prop from spinning (folding/feathering prop or shaft brake).

Most have a hydraulic pump on input shaft to create oil pressure for lubrication and...

Re: Solar chargers & BMS cutoffs

If you set your MPPT to a reasonable voltage (I use 13.8v for both bulk and float) then you will never reach an overcharge or imbalance situation that would trigger the BMS.

Re: How to get the most accurate reading on LiFePo4s?

If you charge your batteries to 13.8v (3.45v per cell) they will be fully charged, if you then stop charging and start discharging the voltage will quickly drop to around 13.4/13,2v

Most of the...

Re: How to get the most accurate reading on LiFePo4s?

I suggest that you install a Victron BMV712, this will give you several benefits;

1. The BMV will measure the voltage at the battery post, not some other voltage subject to error due to voltage...

Re: AutoPilot Control & Calibration - Network Old and New?

FYI, the presence of a gyro should improve the AP in operation, but it will not affect the calibration.

Re: AutoPilot Control & Calibration - Network Old and New?

You can see if your gyro is correctly connected by looking at your AP response levels on the ST6002.

With a gyro present there should be 9 levels, I think 5 levels with no gyro.

Re: Voltage drop with mixed wire sizes

You can absolutely mix wire sizes so long as the fuse/breaker is protecting the smallest wire in the circuit and your total volt drop is within spec.

A few inches of 12 awg will have negligible...
