Re: Am I Too Old To Do This?

Hello. As the other posters said, there are so many people out there in your age group.

The only thing might be that there are ways of using your body weight and balance that take a while to...

Re: 3 cabin or 4 cabin

I would say the 3 cabins. A larger head with seperate shower is a huge deal for comfort.

Plus 8 people is a lot of people on a boat when it comes to catering, dinghy ashore, water for showers...

Re: OK, what did you forget?

Re: Great Lakes, Nautical Terms: "big sea" and others.

You wouldn’t say 9 knots an hour since a knot = nautical mile per hour.

Actually both Cook and Anson wrote “knots an hour” but that was in the 18th century so it doesn’t count.

Re: YouTube Sailors - Overly Romanticized Or Just Lacking Details?

I like the Youtubers and don’t mind them asking for money. After all, Slocum had a book deal when he set out, and charged people in Sydney to come on board.

Re: Full Face Snorkel

I have one and don’t like it nearly as much as I thought i would, and have gone back to a traditional set. I had the same issue with feeling breathless when swimming from the boat to the snorkel...

Re: Death of an Anchorage

Where I live (Sydney) the marinas are expensive but there are thousands of slots for swing moorings which are fairly cheap. But there are long waiting lists for the best areas (eg near the various...

Re: Any Unique Solo Circumnavigation Records Left?

Pick a traditional route but you have to take the countries/ports in alphabetical order.

Re: getting the outboard on the dinghy

I’ll row our little air-floor dinghy for the quiet. But my son and his mates love zipping around with the outboard. He will go anywhere and fetch anything (ice, milk, papers, coffee) without...

Re: Anxiety Attack from Sailing Magazines

I think the same thing could have happened to you by reading 70 back issues of Time Magazine or Cosmopolitan.

RIP Jonah.

Re: Chartering in Vava'u

Hello, this information is 11 years old but we had the same concerns and ended up bringing a lot from Aus and NZ (cereal, UHT milk, tortilla wraps, coffee + French press, snack stuff) and also we...

Re: getting the outboard on the dinghy

How we do this, is the outboard lives on a mount on the pushpit rail. We take the dinghy to a set point midships (with someone inside). We use the main halyard cleated at a marked point. We then...

Re: Anyone in Sydney Australia with a Catamaran

I wouldn’t take her on a race in Sydney Harbour (even a twilight) for her first sail. Too much risk of yelling or argy-bargy which would put her right off.

Re: Thoughts on a "fun" hailing port for a non-documented sailboat?

How about Brigadoon or Tir na nOg (Irish land of eternal youth).

Re: What to do for college...

Hello, I’m new - I’ll post an intro later.

One thing you should do is start a logbook, record your hours/miles/duties and get the skippers sign-off. It will come in handy whatever you do.
