Re: Some Cats are double the price of others ?

Oh for sure I have no doubt about base prices, but keep in mind that will be the same for Outremer.

To be honest the 1000xl is actually plenty big enough for me.

The safest boat is the one that...

Some Cats are double the price of others ?

I look at what I can get with seawind for $410k vs the same basic outfit with Outremer is $950k USD.

Keep in mind these are base prices and I am looking at 5-10yr used as well.

Seawind 1160...

Re: Dating sites for sailors looking for companionship and love

I tried lovesail. no joy whatsoever there, I think the women post their profiles and then forget about them. i get some responses, but not quite the women I am looking for.

It is hard as I am an...

Re: Fast Cruisers sub 42ft?

Thanks for that, a lot of those are using lightweight materials instead of foam and gfc,

I think the 1000xl goes fast largely as its lightweight being a smaller boat.

But which boats are...

Fast Cruisers sub 42ft?

So Im looking at the Seawinds, but really there is nothing to making them faster than my lagoon 42 was.

Are there any 5-10 year old boats that are known for speed due to build materials etc...

Re: Catamaran for sailing and diving skuppered charter?

Totally.

TP made me see this, I can earn $80k in 6 months, so keep contracting and the rest of the year explore and dive NZ and the pacific.

And there are other streams of income, investment...

Re: Catamaran for sailing and diving skuppered charter?

Its under Survey in the Whitsundays, which is an area similar to the bay of islands but its more actual islands. Id say it was just pure hireage, must have cost a fortune with insurance included and...

Re: Catamaran for sailing and diving skuppered charter?

This would be more conducive if I planned to live in the Bay of Islands not Tutukaka.

Which is still an option. Swing moorings are dirt cheap too, like $30 a month with proper 2 tonne concrete...

Re: Catamaran for sailing and diving skuppered charter?

Yeah I agree. So what is it used for currently I wonder. Self skipper hire? Surely thats slightly risky for the vessel and you would have to charge shed loads?

Re: Catamaran for sailing and diving skuppered charter?

Yeah Im moving away from their business model, as you have pointed out, it doesnt work for that reason, but also for a number of others.

I need to find out what its currently chartered for.

Re: Catamaran for sailing and diving skuppered charter?

Ive seem the seawinds doing 3/4 of real wind speed, admittedly closer to half usually.

But its more often than not blowing 20 knots out there and given that, its about a 1 hour ride, which is...

Re: Catamaran for sailing and diving skuppered charter?

TP dont overwhelm me just yet mate. I know I need my skippers, thats also easy to get.

The 1000xl i looked at today is still under survery and has just had an overhaul with new electronics, engine...

Who is responsible for a diver, if they have their padi license is it not on the individual diver for their own skill and safety?

Catamaran for sailing and diving skippered charter?

Im curious, does anybody else use a sailing cat to get out to dive destinations?

One of the main ones for diving here is a marine reserve made up of islands and its about 20km offshore (I should...

Re: Seawind 1000, bluewater, NZ to Fiji etc?

That sounds awesome. Seawinds are pretty fast for a Cat arent they?

I got rid of my 42ftr which was really just a floating apartment.

How fast would a 1000xl go in a 20 knot wind?

Seawind 1000, bluewater, NZ to Fiji etc?

I like that seawind focuses on performance cats as well as comfort.

I cant afford a lot right now, but I really like the look of 2009 Seawind 1000 that was in survey, I assume for chartering.

Yes Ive been look at the newer performance cats, 12 ton displacement vs 16-18

Re: Advice on Trimarans

Actually the farrier f36 looks nicer for me, enclosed toilet, wheel instead of rudder further up. hmmm. not sure which is better. but a used f36 is very affordable

Re: Advice on Trimarans

This is the main reason for looking at Tris, the sail more than they motor. I know performance cats can sail upwin in a light one, but Tris sail to or near wind speed.

As I sail by myself, maximum...

Re: Advice on Trimarans

That is my plan even on the Cat, I left racing monos behind because I was tired of feeling on the edge and wanted to relax and enjoy the voyage as much as the destination. So I alway reef early.

Re: What does it take to become a Boat Surveyor?

I looked into it when I was younger, my uncle is a Surveyor and Marine/Diesel mechanic.

He put me off, working in tight spaces in 45 degree celcious heat, not fun. Surveying you dont stick around...
