Intake grill size, duct size, and discharge grill size will likely need to be increased if going to 16k from a 12k. The risk would be insufficient airflow causing freezing of evaporator.

Did you confirm that the unit had iced over again? It is the evaporator by the way that would be iced, not the condenser.
