Re: Liveaboard solar electric boat

That does not match my experience.

First, in the middle of the day with the sun shining bright in my 40+' catamaran, my (2) 16Kbtu AC struggle to lower the temperature, they do a good job on...

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

I was going to leave this alone, but just can't.......

We are talking about devices that perform a task in order to solve an application need. LFP are just batteries, a component of...

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

FWIW, I work cheap when I work for myself!

What you charge yourself to build your LFP bank?

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

But may not be cheaper if you project how long you might use them. Again, I would have to keep my boat for more than 30 years to begin to see the return.

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

No problem talking about LFP, but, just because you like it doesn't mean everyone else wants/needs it.

The denigration gets tiring....

LFP is wonderful, higher energy density, faster...

Re: What size LiFEPO4 bank

It's not about affordability, it's bang for buck!

As I stated earlier, FLA works for me for <$100/year battery cost. LFP would have to last 30+ years to match the TCO. Since I won't last 30+...

I do know the numbers for FLA, I have not paid attention to LFP for a while.

Re: Oceanvolt Hybrid Motor

You need to go back and read the first 130 pages of this thread to see this very topic has been discussed ad nauseam.

 nope....all those Ring Cameras at the front doors are transmitting those breaking into houses!

Re: Inboard engines and a changing world

Have you ever witnessed a working grid with zero demand?

At the end of 2017, CA had >11MW of solar, I doubt there has ever been less than that demand.

Re: Inboard engines and a changing world

The residential systems I'm familiar with actually export ALL extra power. The inverter monitors the grid for 2 things: to set it's internal oscillator to match grid cycle/time; and it sets it's...

Re: Inboard engines and a changing world

PG&E power peaks @ ~$.35KWh. CA customers pay a facility fee of about $14/month (that's a really cheap battery!!).

Re: Inboard engines and a changing world

PG&E in CA buys excess power from residential solar @ $.03KWh, hardly an inflated price.

Re: Inboard engines and a changing world

So that's your argument? You defend cross-country in an EV regardless of the higher cost for fuel/power because you have to stop and pee often?

Re: Inboard engines and a changing world

Agree!

Plus the fact that Tesla raised prices at their superchargers, they now average $.28KWh (down from $.32 due to customer rebellion!). At that price, I can drive my 2-motor hybrid across...

Similar to cell phone tracking, it’s easy to conclude that if your boat is away from the dock, i.e. underway, that you are on it. Hence, one can track your location in real time, that is a privacy...

I never said AIS was bad, I was commenting about re-transmission of AIS on the Internet.
