Re: Please recommend a good iPad protective case

I’ve had pretty good luck with LifeProof cases in the ocean.

They have one that seals around the edge of the glass on the screen with no actual cover on the screen itself. You’d never think it...

S/V Archer sustains damage in Bora Bora due to a bad mooring

Figured this was relevant to the community and didn’t see it here anywhere.

Last night S/V Archer (Instagram @the_sailing_family) went ashore for dinner and upon returning found their boat and...

Anywhere in SoCal doing 103/104/114 liveaboards?

Hey all,

I’m looking to get my ASA 103, 104, and 114 sometime this summer. I’ve been sailing J24’s for the past year, and I’m hoping to bareboat in the Bahamas or BVI next year, so I want to get...

Re: Sailing long distance, solo.

I see this argument often, but I don’t completely understand it. The fear of equipment failure seems over-emphasized. I do agree you should have the skills necessary for survival if your equipment...

New Sailor Qualifying for Insurance

We just got back from the Annapolis Boat Show, and wow! Having never been on a big blue water boat, they are amazing!

We are hoping to set off on a 5-year circumnavigation in 5-10 years, and one...

Re: Question about 'mayday' situations.

I’m not refuting what you’re saying here, I just found it interesting that you bring this up right after a post about a man who collapsed, was given CPR, and survived...

Re: Sold on a 450. Dammit!

Congrats!

Would three kids have made a difference in your decision? Love the idea of the owners version and having the kids on the other side of the boat, but the kids may all need their own...

Re: Do you have to have your boat surveyed?

Are you paying cash? If so, you can do whatever you want.

If you’re financing your boat, your lender will probably require it.

A lot of people here will tell you you’re crazy to buy a boat...

Re: Just passed ASA 101 - Logbook Questions

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to write that all out. That was very informative.

Right now I’m only on the water for a few hours at time, I’m learning on a lake just North of...

Re: Just passed ASA 101 - Logbook Questions

Thanks for the responses! I was beginning to think everyone had forgotten about me!

I see both you points, it seems I should be less worried about logging the hours for the sake of tracking hours,...

Re: What happens to all the wannabees?

$3-4K seems very reasonable.
For the YouTubers out there, Keith of S/V Zatara put out a video recently about their expenses. They sailed from FL through the Panama Canal, down through the South...

Just passed ASA 101 - Logbook Questions

Hello all,

I just passed my ASA 101 exam, and I’m joining the schools sailing club for access to the small fleet of J/24’s to hone my skills in preparation for the next certification level.

I...

Re: Intruder alarm for boat on the hard

If all you’re looking for is something to make noise, I’d look at something like this:

GE Personal Security Window/Door Alarm, 2-Pack, DIY Home Protection, Burglar Alert, Wireless Alarm,...

Re: Flexible Fiber Reinforce Repairs and Constructions

Thanks everyone for the replies! Looks like Annapolis is the ticket. I spent some time there about 10 years ago and really liked it, so it will be fun to go back. Definitely going to get down to...

Great, looks like we’ll have an excuse to go to the South of France next year... haha. Thanks Gary, great info. I think we really might go check that out.

Re: Best US boat show?

I should probably mention that I’m mainly interested in catamarans. I don’t know if that makes a difference or not, but I do want to see all types of boats for fun.

Thanks! That’s pretty much what I had in mind. I’m on the north-east side of the metroplex, closer to Lake Ray Hubbard and Lake Lavon, but I was considering getting a boat on Lake Texoma, since it’s...
