I think any serious sailor going offshore should have paper charts of the area, one or two sextants and of course know how to use it. Is your safety net when everything else fails.

Atcowboy, I wouldn't like to have you has my dock neighbor when I am exhausted and coming in to dock, in 20 knots winds. I understand that as a solo sailor you should know when people may need help...

What about using a trysail to be able to better keep the boat in a heave to position, I don't have one but wonder if it could work better than with the main. I have a rather light displacement...
