They will fail quickly because of overload due to temperature also if the outside temp is high and even on low load. just my two cents :-)

Reading through the posts I would say that your avr is dead put dc voltage from a battery or so onto the wires coming from the brushes and start the motor you should have some higher

Here in The Gambia the water is also very acidic the whole population drinks it untreated and there are no health complaints related to the water.

The victron 3000va / 24 volt has an efficiency of 94 % that would be enough for me to choose for the ac side of things which are most likely cheaper and more efficient then the 12 volt appliances.

A solar controller would not be needed if you sit next to a voltage meter to keep an eye on the charging provided to your panel are like 24 volt and your bank is also 24 volt.

Out of experience I would go with captloyd's advice and pull the full engine because you can do a much better job on the work bench instead of being a contortionist in the engine room. good luck!
