Re: HH 44 by the Wynss

Yes… yes… very true. Now if I put everything I ever made into the market and just ate rice, I’d be very wealthy when I died. I’d also never have experienced much life.

Re: Will a furled jib destroy the rig?

Don’t know if this helps… just a data point.

Our catamaran survived a direct hit from hurricane Maria when it hit Puerto Rico. The eye of the storm passed directly over us.

Afterwards an...

Re: Help me find dyneema loop in US pls

You can make a dynema loop yourself, it’s rather easy. I make soft shackles all the time now.

Or you can have one made and sent to you by West Marine in Ft. Lauderdale. They have a good rigger...

Re: Thinking of buying a rocna 44lb for Endeavor 35.5.

Buy it. I’ve slept well for years on my Rocna and then Rocna Vulcan.

You’ll never say, “I wish I’d gone down an anchor size” when it’s blowing hard at midnight. It’s better to roll over a go back...

Re: BVI charter: 43 ft vs 51 ft monohull? Is 51 ft too big?

You’re going to have a great time. Remember your primary goal…. You want your wife to love cruising.

Get the bigger boat with A/C, ESPECIALLY if you want to get your wife excited about cruising. ...

Re: Performance of charter cats?

I’m not a racer but a cruiser. Next time I go on an upwind passage I’ll gather data to share. I’m currently heading up the Windwards so sea state will likely 1-2 meter seas & 15-20kts wind

Talking Re: Performance of charter cats?

Let me explain more clearly. We can easily get up to 45deg AWA and do 1/2 of TWS.

I’m obsessed with TWS much more than AWS because of a boat’s ability “to make its own wind.” To me it’s more of...

Re: Cruising from Port Jefferson, NY to Block Island recommendations

There’s also the entire North Fork of Long Island to explore. Shelter Island is great to visit.

Re: Simplicity: Yacht Owners Feared Dead After Escapees Recaptured (Grenada)

Re: Sunreef Performance Characteristics

Sunreef cats are beautiful and will work well in crewed charter. I used to have a crewed charter business with a Privilege 615 so I have a bit of experience.

As far as performance goes, the...

Re: Best way to transition from monohull to multihull

Greetings from Martinique!

I was a monohull holdout until we chartered a cat.

How she handles all depends on your boat…. It’s not uncommon to be going upwind, having some lunch with a tall...

Re: Best way to transition from monohull to multihull

If possible, when docking or doing any other close quarters maneuvers, motor stern to the wind.

Catamarans have a lot of windage. If you’re docking in windy conditions, maneuver in reverse....

I don’t have any experience with Astrea but I though I’d read a thread here about how they sailed poorly.

Re: Pushing the budget

You’re going to spend 2 or 3 times what you think you’re going to spend getting your boat ready to go (we are on fourth cat and we still underestimated the costs ).

You’re going to need...

Re: All modern anchors with loop, based on the Bugel are the same in performance

Aye! Agree with you completely.

Dragged on a delta - last generation of anchor. Replaced it with a regular Rocna. Great performance.

Bought another new to me boat that came with a Delta...

Re: How Long Are Sea Trials

1. Go with surveyor the entire survey. It’s a yes/yes.

2. YES! Surveyor goes on trial. They should be busy checking systems when you’re out on trial

Obviously, if you’re buying a $2,000 day...

Yes. I’ve been watching their channel for years. They are way more experienced sailors than me. I meant I was surprised they’d spent months on their current boat without noticing the keel offset.

Re: Dragging anchor issue documented in YouTube video
