Re: Bluewater cruiser thoughts?

Re: Family thinking of cruising, new to catamarans

In the Virgin Islands, if you know how to motor and pick up a mooring you'll be fine, no sailing skills required. Bonus points if you know how to anchor.

Re: Is there a way to safely repair this wire?

If your windlass is reversible, and I think the Lighthouses are, that cable is not a ground or a negative, it is simply one of two cables powering the motor where the polarity makes the motor run in...

I have four ReLion 300Ah batteries for the house loads. Due to space constraints, they are located in two different places, so two banks of two batteries, and the cable lengths to each bank are...

Re: Starlink router

Yes there are 12V routers that you can use, but it is not quite that simple. You need to hack the Starlink cable and supply dishy 48VDC via POE. There are detailed instructions on how to set this...

Chat GPT, write me a whiny xenophobic treatise on why I should stay home and not sail around the world. Be sure to blame the Chinese.

Re: Starlink Roam issues in the ocean

I don't turn mine off very often, but when I do, I don't bother "stowing" it. In fact, in 9 months of constant cruising use, I have never stowed it. I've also never seen any behavior like OP's...

Re: How much time needed for Colombia to Fiji?

Yes, I am on the World ARC. It's fast, but you have the option of stopping and rejoining the next year, as many boats do. So you don't have to do it all in one shot.

Re: How much time needed for Colombia to Fiji?

Yeah, that's right. We are moving one day for every day we stand still, on average. It is a fast pace, but linger too long and you fall off the weather cycle and need to wait 9-11 months before...

Re: Island piglet: the right boat for remote voyaging?

Draft is not generally an issue in the south Pacific where the anchorages are deep. The water tends to be 1m deep or 1000m, without much in-between. Bring a lot of chain. From the Marquesas...
