Re: PIRATE MITIGATION
I heard that a paintgun loaded with pepper spray ammo is pretty effective but nonlethal. Also, this negates the need to declare/surrender your protection when entering a foreign country. |

Re: Big $$$ Chartplotter or Computer App(s)
For years I have been using Navionics on am Android Samsung $300 tablet. I also run PredictWind and other nav apps on it. At $300, it's cheap enough to have a duplicate tablet for redundancy. I... |

Re: Sailing vessel and RORO ship on collision courses - what do you think of the outc
YOU care more about your boat than any other captain. I would have taken control of the situation - gotten on my VHF and called the other ship - "My instruments calculate a CPA of zero. I will now... |

Re: Kubota's, anyone have opinions on these?
Catalina sells a lot of boats with a "Universal" engine - it's just a marinized Kabota engine. Very reliable, though. |

Re: Big Irwin and lake Michigan!
My 1976 Irwin 52 was approx 61 feet overall - from the furthest edge of the davits to the very tip of the bowsprit. But it was 52' LOD. |

Re: Sell my house for a Swan 48?
OK, what's RIGHT with your plan. I'm a 73 year old long time sailor of a Catalina 36 and a RE agent who doesn't want to sell your house. First, IMHO, we are at the very top of the RE market so... |

Re: Florida Hurricane Safe Marinas
Indiantown is about 20 miles inland and protected by a lock on the St Lucie canal. BUT, not sure the canal can accommodate your beam. My mono has an 11' beam and draws about 5'. |

Re: Florida Hurricane Safe Marinas
Another vote for Indiantown. Great friendly marina that does quality work. |

Re: Neat tricks to unstick a stuck Furler?
The PO "upgraded" the furling line to a larger dianeter. It was just enough to jam in the drum. I downsized the line and voila. |

Re: weird Catalina 36 reefing rig
The reef line for my first reef goes into the pulley on top of the boom 3 inches from the boom end near the mast. The line travels thru the boom to emerge on top of the boom 4 inches from the outer... |

Re: 28-36 Sailboat with large cockpit,st wheel, marine head, kind of fast. Recommendat
You are describing a Catalina 36. Great roomy boat for a reasonable cost. Also, there is a strong resale market for Catalinas. |

Re: Catalina 36 lazy jacks vs. "stack pack" options
As you read the above, the Common Thread is that lazy Jack's frequently catch on the battens. At the very least you need to plan so that they don't catch on the battens. With the Dutchman, there's no... |

Re: Catalina 36 lazy jacks vs. "stack pack" options
Another vote for the Dutchman. Have your new main modified. I have the Dutchman on my 2001 Catalina 36 and love the ability to just dump the main quickly if/WHEN needed. |

Re: Marina options in Charleston
I highly recommend the Isle of Palms Marina . It's a small Marina on a very upscale Barrier Island. Lived there two years. Never a problem. 15 min to downtown Charleston. |

Re: Sailboat make/model advice: Young couple looking for a coastal cruising boat in P
Another vote for Catalina 34 or 36. They hold their value well and would be pretty easy to sell when you are ready to move up in size. |

Re: Any use having GPS data feed for Raymarine Evolution autopilot?
I've got an EV200. I installed it last year. All the positional "smarts" are in the little flying saucer shaped EV1 Sensor core. I don't think there's any need for an external GPS for this autopilot. |

Re: North from the Bahamas
Another approach at deciding inside/outside for an older new-to-you boat. Which do you trust more - the motor or the sails/rigging? If the sails/rigging are untested, I'd go ICW. If the... |
