Re: Best Port for Repairs and Outfitting in Western Mexico?

My advice for refitting a boat in Mexico, is to be as close to the USA border as possible. A lot of times it's going to be easier/faster/cheaper to import stuff yourself.

When I was in guaymas...

Re: Best Port for Repairs and Outfitting in Western Mexico?

Guaymas is definitely the cheapest, and least regulated yard I have come across. There are a few marine supply stores in the area , but don't expect much and the prices are not great. The town of...

Re: Best Port for Repairs and Outfitting in Western Mexico?

Guaymas is very affordable yard where you can do anything. It's primitive dirt yard but there's nothing you can't do there. Some good independent contractors around , and the yard does decent work. ...

Re: Whaly 270 Won't Plane

I owned a whaly 310 for a while before it was stolen, which was a relief because I hated it.

The boat was rated for 10hp or 15hp, i had a 25hp Yamaha on it and it would rarely plane with myself,...

Re: Can project boats be worth it?

When I was 20 I went out and bought the biggest cheapest boat I could find. It needed a new engine, rudder, tanks, the deck had major issues. But the mast and rigging were fairly new and in good...

Re: Spray paint old Sunbrella sacrificial?

I have painted a uv cover onto a furling headsail with "sani - tread" paint . The results were great and has lasted a year so far with no signs that the paint will peel off any time soon.

Anyone interested in DIY hybrid parts?

I have been messing around with adding an electric motor to my drive line. Parallel hybrid seems like a no brainer for most cruising boats with large battery banks .

It adds a ton of redundancy...

Re: Adding more windage, would you upgrade anchor gear?

I think I'm sold on going up to 1/2" chain

$1600 + tax seems like a good deal for 300' of chain . West marine has the same chain for $9.99 per foot plus tax .

This stuff is labeled
"Premium...

Re: Adding more windage, would you upgrade anchor gear?

Adding more windage, would you upgrade anchor gear?

I have finally convinced myself that the...
