Re: Runaway Lewmar Electric winch
You missed a key part out from your last part. Never hoist someone using the self-tailing jaws of an electric winch. Have the line through a closed clutch, as you suggest, and hand tail the... |

Garmin VHF Handset help
Hi. We have a garmin GHS20 wireless VHF handset at the helm. This has a charging cradle; which I don’t really think is intended to be outdoors, as it has failed. There are 2 contact pads onto which... |

Re: Garmin chart updates - version 2020.50
Smac. Do you know which revision “jump” represents the G2 vs G3 change? Is it 2019.50 —> 2020.00 ? Same for all worldwide maps? |

Re: Seldom rodkickers
If you happen to be looking for a spare gas strut. I’ve got a genuine selden one 2500N for series 30. We replaced ours thinking the strut had failed. It hasn’t. The vang fitting had slid along the... |

Isolation Transformer Tripping
Hi all. Went back to the boat to find no shore power present. Further inspection found the breaker in the isolation transformer had tripped. Tried to flick back on, but it trips again... |

Garmin Gwind
Christ. How tall is your mast?? I don’t think the black box is weather proof so you’re going to have to feed the cable though a deck gland or swan-neck if your mast is deck-stepped. Buying two... |

Re: Lewmar opening portlight dog adhesive?
It’s very difficult. The original is a heat/pressure application. Some have had semi-success using gel-type CA glue. |

Re: Electric Winch Suggestions?
How old are your Lewmar winches? If newer than about 1992 then you can probably add electric drive to them via an upgrade kit. |

Re: need help with Lewmar windlass
Time to read manual I think. You should be able to see a spring loaded bronze pin around the edge of the clutch cover (the bit with the marlins on). If you can’t see the bronze pin, then pull... |

Re: need help with Lewmar windlass
The Pro-Fish model tightens and loosens the clutch itself to allow for the anchor to free-fall to the sea bed when you want to set anchor. If you have to use a wrench to slacken and tighten, Are... |

Re: need help with Lewmar windlass
Check that the little block with the two opposing ramps on (that act on the bronze plunger button on the clutch cap) is screwed to the main chassis securely and is not bent in any way. When it’s... |

need help with Lewmar windlass
Hi Bob. OK way off the mark on my guess, but you steered me wrong :) FYI you have a vertical windlass, not a horizontal windlass, if you have a V5. The vertical/horizontal refers to the... |

Re: need help with Lewmar windlass
Hi Bob. Without knowing the model it’s hard to say what should or shouldn’t be done, as it will depend greatly on the drive-train in your particular windlass. Based on your description I’d guess... |

Re: need help with Lewmar windlass
They’ll say as I did above. I’m an ex-employee at HQ in UK, and wrote the manual for this windlass [emoji23] |

Re: need help with Lewmar windlass
The sprung arm is there for rope (or chain/rope mixed) rode, to ensure the rope is pushed into the teeth in the inner part of the gypsy. If you have chain only rode, then you could remove this... |

Re: Single point of failure
I think your reasoning is sensible. In my mind a N2K set up is ultimately significantly more reliable than NMEA0183, with its thin, often improperly specified cabling, crimped ends etc. Once... |

Re: Marina with GFI
If you really meant to say “how do I bypass the inverter” rather than “how do I bypass the GFI” then my comment was unfair. However, that’s not what you wrote and therefore my comment, whilst... |

Re: New Firmware SCS Pactor PTC-II series modem
do you mean 2.30.90 ? That was released about a month ago. Or is there a newer one they’ve not yet updated on the change log? |
