If the purpose is to maintain a battery while you're away, given your temporary setup, could consider a simple 12volt DC input with an integral controller?

The cartridges are not refillable - but are readily available at least in most of Europe and a quick search shows availability in the US.

It isn't for everyone - but the EFOY unit weighs...

Unfortunately always happens in any institution overtime unless we get periodic wakeup calls. There's always an inertia towards "efficiency" - cost containment. The Navy keeps getting screwed royally...
