Re: VP MD2040D Fuel Injection Pump Leak

I wish I could help you more, but after asking on this forum and being advised to take it to a fuel shop, that's exactly what I did.

I couldn't find anywhere on the internet any information...

Re: Saildrive: does ATF float?

Thanks for the info. I'm glad I started this thread. I've learned a little more about saildrives which have always been black boxes to me.

Re: Saildrive: does ATF float?

I really don't know why the saildrive manual says ATF or DEXRONII instead of normal engine oil.

They're seaprop 60 saildrives I bought from Beta marine. Not much info online about them.

Re: Saildrive: does ATF float?

Thanks all.

The ATF doesn't look milky and you've convinced me I wouldn't see any residue if the saildrive were leaking so it must be something else.

I'll keep looking.

Re: Saildrive: does ATF float?

Good idea. I should siphon some fluid out and see if it looks like a milkshake.

My problem is probably not the saildrive leaking, but it made me curious if one of the symptoms of a lower seal...

Saildrive: does ATF float?

If I have a leak from my lower saildrive seal, would I see oil residue on the water's surface? Or do you think ATF would sink so I wouldn't see anything on the surface?

Re: Help troubleshooting alternator

I took it to an alternator shop and they said there was AC on the output so I assume that means I blew he rectifier.

They're looking at it today so I should know soon if something else if wrong...

Re: Help troubleshooting alternator

Applying 12 volts doesn't product any output so it does seem something is wrong with the alternator.

Also, it's 2.7 Ohms from the field terminal to ground.

I'll try to find an alternator...

It is controlled by a Balmar 614 regulator.

I checked the field voltage and it looked...

Re: Sailing South from Charleston to West Palm Beach

We grabbed a mooring ball in St Augustine this year and really enjoyed the area. It was an easy two night trip from Charleston.

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Problem

I installed the new propeller this morning and the slipping has gone away. It also feels a little faster so maybe it's been slipping a little bit for a while now and I hadn't noticed it.

Thanks...

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Problem

Ok. Got it. The prop is only $81 so not too expensive.

Is there any way to test to make sure that's the problem before I order the new prop?

I should've said that the engine really does work well at low, medium and even high RPMs. I use it every day to get to and from shore. It's only under high load like trying to go full throttle with 6...

They charged $450. That price was for both parts and labor. The parts included the usual $15 Volvo O-rings.

Re: VP MD2040D Fuel Injection Pump Leak

How do you fix a crack in the pump body? Do you have to buy a new pump or did you JB weld it?
