Re: Just say NO to Prop Speed!

It isn't difficult. Clean the blades completely. Lightly sand. Apply an acid etch (included in the kit), wipe off, apply 2 coats of primer. Appy 2 coats of topcoat.

From memory, the kit details...

Re: Just say NO to Prop Speed!

Going 6 months without a cleaning, that isn't bad. Also, just because a boatyard that applies a lot of it, doesn't mean it was done right. The shipyard in Opua did a terrible job on mine. When I saw...

Re: Recommended Cockpit Platform

There are windows tablets and windows convertible laptop/tablets that would work in a cockpit. My laptop uses around 10-15W. Really not any more than a Pi when you consider a monitor.

But to my...

Re: Just say NO to Prop Speed!

Propspeed isn't even comparable to the cheap stuff. Honestly, it works pretty amazing and you should get 18 months from it *IF* it is applied correctly and *IF* you do not over protect your prop.

Re: Recommended Cockpit Platform

There are a lot of rpi enthusiasts here, and so lots of recommendations for it. But, it isn't simple, no mater how much a package like OpenPlotter or BBN tries to dumb it down. And, it isn't any more...

Re: Replacing 12 volt House battery with four 6 volt batteries for longer off shore p

Why not Lithium?

Changing from 12V to 6V in series and parallel doesn't increase you capacity in the same space. Given a space, whether 12V or 6V, total capacity is the same. That is just physics,...

Re: Affordable Comms for Internet still ?

As mentioned the router and service are 2 things. And there is a large range in quality. The high end routers will take 6 SIM cards both for diversity between carriers and to bond them for higher...

Re: Inexpensive. Inflatable dinghies

I used to have a Saturn Dinghy from them. It was both a good dinghy for the price, but also, you get what you pay for. After many patches and repairs, it sank out from under me (literally, I was then...

Said in response to my assertion that MOSFET BMS's are reliable, and my asking where are the failed ones are.

Re: Fridge 12v vs AC?

And that balances with volume of space in the battery compartment. A larger space with less insulation will require more money spent on batteries, and more space for them.

Such are the dilemmas of...

Re: Lithium mini batteries

So you are saying that there are millions of MOSFET BMS's sold, and since they are working and the evidence is lacking that they are unreliable, your position is that they must be broken and the...

Re: Fridge 12v vs AC?

You could also say 50 hours of rebuilding the box with more insulation = 1 hour of installing a new compressor. About how many hours I spent in both cases on my rebuild.

Re: Fridge 12v vs AC?

You generally can't compare them, unless the to units in question are identical except for the compressor motor. Insulation, or even sizing of the compressor and evaporator will make a larger...

Re: Lithium mini batteries

Have you tested this? I have tested my JBD with a direct short, multiple times. The MOSFETS are very, very fast. They are fast enough to both save the BMS from damage, and save the fuse from blowing....

Re: Sea Anchors, most complicated simple thing ever

They are not interchangeable. A sea anchor is deployed from the bow, and is large enough to stop the boat. A drogue is deployed from the stern, and slows the boat when it would otherwise be surfing...

Re: Fridge 12v vs AC?

A brushless DC motor is considered DC because DC voltage is applied to the driver/controller. What is actually applied to the motor is PWM. The driver, in the case of some Danfoss compressors, could...

Re: BMS capacity vs fuse size

The BMS is going to act faster to protect anything than the fuse. Keep that in mind. You really don't need to protect the BMS, as it protects itself, and will do so faster than a fuse.

The fuse is...

Re: Bilge pump challenge

I loose or "bad" connection won't cause this, as a bad connection will reduce the current, not increase it.

You need to measure the current. Ideally in a few locations, right at the breaker while...
