Re: Victron battery monitor weirdness.
So, it sounds like I should stick with 14.2?
Talk of temperatures prompted me to see how the batteries had fared in a recent heat wave. They got warm. (We slept out on the foredeck for that...

I dunno if I should be taking electrical advice from a guy who wires his subwoofer into the bilge pump circuit.

Old Autohelm 5000 rotary drive reliability.
Hi all,
One of the bits of kit that came with the new boat is an Autohelm 5000. The control unit itself is toast, but the rotary drive seems ok. I pulled it apart and I’d say it has had next to...

Re: Victron battery monitor weirdness.
I suppose you are right. The Coulomb counter seems to get it right at about the same time as the bank reached 14.2, but no harm in going higher.
The new boat has a DIY LifePO4 bank so I’m going...

Re: Victron battery monitor weirdness.
Interesting observations, thank you.
I will keep an eye on the history function and see just how the FLA Trojans behave in similar situations. My old Votronic didn’t give me this sort of data so...

Re: Victron battery monitor weirdness.
I’ve not had much to do with AGMs yet but it is my understanding that they are less “resistive” to charge than FLA?
Also, are you charging with solar or some other source? As smac999 notes, solar...

Yep, 14.2 for Charged Voltage and kept the 4% tail current. Looks about right now. Thanks to all for the useful contributions. :thumb:

Re: Victron battery monitor weirdness.
So far, so good…
Voltage and current over the same time period for clarity. Solar input is being hampered by the current swinging the bow into the sun and throwing a shadow over both panel banks....

And you’ve articulated something that was bothering me about the...

Re: Victron battery monitor weirdness.
Yeah, current is no good because, as I implied the controllers are not even in absorption when this happens, and being solar the charge current is all over the place. Meaningless at that time of...

Re: Victron battery monitor weirdness.
I wondered about those defaults. Victron seemed adamant about them so I left well alone, but yes, now that you mention it, Trojan does like to charge hard.
Regarding the old meter, yes,...

Re: Vesper AIS XB8000, cannor see it in marine traffic
Just a follow up to this for anyone reading. I’ve noticed that Marine Traffic can be extremely slow to report a new boat AIS if they already have a boat in their records with the same name.

Re: 6 Volts from 12 Volt System!?!?
A few diodes in series would produce that voltage drop. Maybe they did actually NEED six volts for something and did it that way.
But yep, rip it all out and start again.
I’ve done this now...

Re: Caprail options
Yes, this one is on our list to try. I’m actually experimenting with them on the old boat as rub rails and they are GOOD. Actually quite flexible, almost “floppy”. And yes, super easy to work...
