Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I'm not sure what ancillary equipment you are referring to, though. Here is what is included in their battery (quoting from their site):

"Including battery management system with integrated...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I think you missed my point. I have not decided to use them. I just wanted to understand your comment about them being OK to use as a propulsion bank, but not as a House bank.

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Yet that doesn't explain why you would accept them as a propulsion bank. It sounds more like you would recommend against them altogether.

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Yes, I am also considering these. I need to learn more about the safety side, and the price is fairly steep. However, the weight aspect is very attractive, coming in well below all the other...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I'll document the whole thing on video and post it when the time comes. Thank you for offering your suggestions, nothing is yet written in stone, I'm just weighing possibilities up until I buy. ...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Well, not quite. Full max output on my cat means I need 30kw, not 15kw (2 SD15 servoprop motors, 15kw each).

However, yes, I can get along on 15kw, for a cruising speed of about 6 knots.

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I originally considered that (and haven't ruled it out) but I like the idea of running only one generator and having it supply enough power to drive both motors at around 6 knots, with some power...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I am already familiar with Polarpower, however, the two I'm interested in are these:

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Those are too small. I'm likely going with a 20kw and a 10kw, though there are some arguments to go with just one 20kw, but I like redundancy.

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I plan on two, a 20kw and a 10kw, this gives me options (see below). However, I doubt I will choose to charge at 1C the vast majority of the time, it's too hard on the batteries. Most of the time I...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I will discuss any batteries I might be looking at with Oceanvolt, prior to making a choice. However, I already know I won't be building a DIY bank.

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

My main problem with Super-B batteries is the price. They are something like $3,300 per battery. I am seeking a bank size of somewhere around 800Ah@48v. That requires 20 Super-B batteries. 20x...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Yes, the boat is being modified to handle the space needed for that much solar. 400A is what I expect, though your estimates aren't exactly what I've gotten from other people using solar. One rule...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

You keep talking about this, but I don't know of any system I could buy.
Please link an electric sail drive, which weigh under 150 lbs., each, and a battery bank at 480v, which weighs under 800...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Sorry, meant 600A. I'm planning an 800Ah battery bank, hopefully with a 2C discharge rate, and even then, the motors only use 600A, max. I don't plan to discharge at max rate for more than bursts,...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

This is actually why I started this thread in the first place. Oceanvolt SD 15 motors pull over 300 Ah at full speed, and I will have two. Therefore, I need my batteries to be able to discharge at...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Also, I should mention, I'm not looking for a DIY setup, I want a complete battery system, something like this:

Green Orca 1050
• 505 x 540 x 325 mm (H x D x W)
• Lloyd’s certified
• 52 Volt,...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I'm not planning on the SuperBs if I can help it. Those are just one of the batteries Oceanvolt recommends for their SD 15s. I'm currently looking for a better option. As I mentioned, I'm looking...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I agree that I would not risk a DIY scrapped EV pack battery bank, but I might consider these professionally made marine batteries, based on the previous applications using Li-NMC, including...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

I'm not sure I'm using it correctly, but it is a battery term.

Just search the net on 'e-rate battery' and you'll find plenty of references. Most likely, I should just stick to C-rate to avoid...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

To answer your questions, yes, this will be on mid-size cat 48', with two generators, possibly a 20kw and a 10kw. 5kw of solar panels. I haven't decided if I'm going with a single or separate...

Re: Lithium battery C-rate question

Just another way of expressing the charge rate of a battery. Most people just use C-rate for both charge and discharge, but I was using E-rate for charge and C-rate for discharge to makes things...
