With 316 that thick you need oxy gas setup,if you worried about cracking why not go to 1/2" mild steel and paint it with galvanising paint some amazing new cold galvanising stuff out there.Cheers.

I bleed my 4107 by unscrewing the bleed screw on secondary filter and cracking open the injectors turn engine over till diesel runs bubble free then she runs.

Why not sand down to bare metal and apply several coats of epoxy resin and coats of quality metal paint.Should last a long time,and touch them up when required.Better than spending hundreds of $.
