Re: Chesapeake Bay Anchor Holding Power Test

... or any place like it, overnight.
This is the only conclusion which makes sense to me.

Re: What Order to Read the Pardey Books?

This is the order of the original publications, I think.
I would read them in this order. There is repeated information but all-in-all well worth the read.

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

OK... What we read is a couple Sarca owners/supporters jousting with windmills since one of these anchors has not been discussed, pictured, or even discussed directly, in this entire thread. What is...

Re: Suggestions for Safety Harness Please?

For a pure harness, no life jacket involved, I was never happy with anything offered in the marine industry, Larkas and the like. I found a parachute Drop Zone facility with a certified Parachute...

Re: Marine Binoculars

Steiner 7X50 Marine Binoulars. These are 300 bucks at Optics Planet, I can't fathom buying anything else with a 300 dollar budget.
I've had a pair of these for years with no issues and they have not...

Re: Bosun's chair

I feel tree saddles are most workable for mast climbing, at least for me. Take a look at something like the New Tribe, Twist. It's pretty comfortable to sit in compared to climbing harnesses I have...

Re: putting faith in electronics

Randy, maybe you need to define "faith". Charts, Buoys, Markers, Plotters, GPS, Sextant, Bearing Compass, Depth Sounder, and Radar are all aids to navigation. They all can be useful tools... or not....

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting.

Thanks, given your obvious routine use, this says a lot about the durability of your chosen camera kit.
Your study is very helpful, this is a great topic. Thank you for the time and energy devoted...

Re: Chesapeake Bay Anchor Holding Power Test

Maybe it's regional but with the estuarine diurnal tides and the regular evening storm fronts here on the bay, every anchor which is in use can and will be tested to the standard described. Like it...

Re: Chesapeake Bay Anchor Holding Power Test

Brian, to this point, what is of great interest here is the very typical conditions which the boat floats over the set anchor and the following load is 180 degrees out, not a mere 20 degree veer....

Re: How far out to sea is safe in a hurricane?

When did you stop beating your wife?
This question as with your question presupposes an unknown as a known. Both are unsupportable suppositions.

It is NEVER "Safe" to be in a hurricane at...

Course up is prefered by many as it corresponds to the typical course up radar presentation which is tactically intuitive. Both could be run in North up but it's still not as intuitive in southern...

Re: SOG or STW for course to steer

Navigating assumes reference to earth, (ground). Use SOG and COG.

STW and CTW, (Heading) are tactical, for lack of a better word, data points used for calculation or improvement of SOG and COG....
