Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

What self respecting sailor wants to go to windward anyway?

Brilliant job you're doing, you must be set on keeping this one, the standard of work is really high, if you were going to sell you...

Re: Curtain Hanging

We use a piece of 3mm ply held in place with suckers that stick directly to the Perspex (we got a carton with 24 suckers with hooks from a pound shop). In the UK they last quite a while but I don't...

Re: Top Ten Suggestions for Tropical Sailing

40ft air hose, what a brilliant idea, I lost my sunglasses and a drop nose pin on my mooring last week, but doing the whole scuba thing was too much of a chore but a 40ft hose would have done it and...

Re: First Time Live Aboard, Chesapeak Bay

Steel can be incredibly strong but I have seen a nice looking boat where the skin had corroded to paper thin, the owner had a nightmare working out which plates to replace.
By boat Cacique is a...

Re: First Time Sailboat Buyer, with the Intention to Live Aboard (Tampa Bay Area)

I'm all for your boat acquisition but trust me DON'T buy a wooden boat!!!
go for a grp (fibreglass).
But living aboard has to be much cheaper than a house, especially as you have the DIY skills,...

Re: 1st Time "LiveAboard" Need Help Budgeting Annually

I wish you the best of luck and would say "Do it,...

Re: "chart table"

Perspex (plexiglass) works well, I cut a piece to fit my table exactly and the chart underneath never moves, if I want to change it then I can get under the edge to lift it and then change it, but...

Re: Looking for a Good Sloop to Sail Blue Waters Solo

Keep a lookout for a Vancouver (27, 32 or 34), very good sea boat, my 27 Cacique circumnavigated 1990 to 93. She is for sale but is in the UK so probably not for you.
Good luck with your search.

Re: I Have Pulled the Trigger !

Lovely pic at first I thought it wasn't real.
Weather is pretty grim here in the UK we had 100 mph winds in the south last week, probably about 50mph where Cacique was in the harbour but no serious...

Re: modernizing a prout elite 37ft

Well you seem to find the best deals in the do it up boat category.
I think your ideas for improving the headroom are sound, its like a bespoke custom built boat, built on a known and proven hull....

Re: Shoestring Sailors (Cruising on $500 per month - part II)

I'm sure only the very worst boats have to be scrapped, there is allways someone to take them and do something with them, I've seen a rowing boat made into a porch and many little boats made into...
