Re: South West Florida

South Seas on Captiva is a world-class marina and resort with great dining choices and a trolley into the little town. You get use of the entire resort with your marina fee. We’ve loved it for...

2001 Catalina 400 MK II

Thanks. Nice boat. I’m on the road but will take another look tonight. And now I see the Cooper River Bridge in the background!

Re: Extremely well known boat I want to list

Noah’s Ark? Kon Tiki? Cousteau’s Calypso? The Black Pearl? Wanderer from Captain Ron? I’m very intrigued.

Just kidding. I say go ahead and post. People can certainly pm for the pix.

Re: Early retirement and health care for boaters

It look to me like “Bind” is only available through an employer, not available for individual, private purchase.

Re: Atlantic Cruising Yachts and Business Yacht Ownership

Agreed, but the rules aren’t really all that hard to adhere to, and the same is done with airplanes frequently. The IRS is nothing to fear if you make the effort. Rules can help as much as they can...

Re: Month 24 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

I really do enjoy reading these posts. Thanks for 2 full years Sailorboy. And I will admit I enjoy the hecklers as well. LOL

Re: Marina

The lock you’re thinking of is at Cape Harbour Marina in Cape Coral. Burnt Store has many large cats and they do have some located on T ends of docks so not two slips.

2006 Leopard 40

She looks nice. I’m curious about a couple of things: I presume you pulled out the stock Northern Lights gen? Why, and does the little Honda get the job done for you? What limitations have you...

Re: Tallahassee, FL to Abacos, Bahamas (4/1/18)

Is this actually serious? I fear it might be. Anchoring out for a month on a 20 footer with no Air Con, generator, or fridge/freezer is best left to lunatics and Webb Chiles.

Re: Need a mooring spot near Cape Coral Florida

The only mooring balls are in Ft Myers Beach. Tarpon Point Marina likely has dock space for a cat....did you call them?

Re: I'm sure another what can I afford post

Labor at $85-95/hour. A new genset for $11k, a new Air con unit for $4000, a new fridge/freezer for $2k, new chart plotter for $2500, 2 bottom paint jobs at $2600 each, even oil changes are $600, (...

Re: I'm sure another what can I afford post

Hi Adam, New FP MY 37 is about $700k. The cheapest one for sale that I can find is $380k. And that’s a beat up charter boat. Most are going for $500k, especially here in the US. Assuming $50K in...

Re: I'm sure another what can I afford post

A used FP MY37 is about $450k isn’t it? My advice is buy a used Moorings/ Leopard 39pc for $250K and fix it up with the extra $50K. A home slip will be $6K, insurance $3.5k, professional repair and...

Re: Moorings charter: Nassau to Exumas

I’m a Moorings PowerCat owner. No worries with your plan on any front. Weather should be good, although May better than March. 75 Miles is easy. And that Boat is very easy to operate and maneuver. ...

Re: Cruising, how much $$$?

Hi Fabian,

First, I live far from the Boat, so all maintenance was done professionally at $85/ hr., and in the last 3 years included a brand new NL 6kw gen, a new AirCon unit, new fridge/freezer,...

Ok. I watched it. I enjoyed it. A couple things stood out to me that made me really wonder about the reality of your plan. Caveat that I’ve never been a long term cruiser, but I have owned boats for...

Re: Itinerary Departing Key West

Just cruised this whole area in June. You do not have enough time to do the Dry Tortuga trip. You could circumnavigate the lower keys from KW to the 7 mike bridge and around in that timeframe. There...

Re: Pacific NW to Marquesas

I thought boats moved South to get into the trade winds before turning west. Leaving southwesterly from up North isn’t likely to have you beating directly upwind, but it’s a lot of cold water and...

Nice! Looks like an awesome trip. Did you have northerly winds at first to help get you well East before turning south?

Re: Cruising from Cape Coral to Key West?

Dave, I have done this trip on our powerboat as well. It’s not hard. Make sure you have something for long range communication in case of engine failure. There are times with no other boat around...
