Re: Cost of Standing Rigging Repalcement

Depends, if they bring in a crane to get to where your boat is on the hard that sounds about right with the minimum time charges from a crane service for two trips.

Not really enough details to...

Re: Tiller vs Wheel

Depends on the boat, for day use and the odd weekend I'd be looking for something "sporty" and fun. For that I'd prefer tiller. And probably under 30'.
For me I'd be taking a look a Jboats and the...

Re: CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

Strange, don't get it. 5'9" draft on a 33 foot fin keel isn't what I consider deep anyway especially if you look at the boat I really want at 7.25' for a large 34!
That should really p.o. of some of...

Re: Soft decks

My guess is it's something like Gorilla Glue (GG), a liquid that foams up and cures in the presence of moisture. That stuff stick just about anything to anything but it's not magic, you still have to...

Re: CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

Hmm. Guy named Andy selling the Hunter? LOL he bought his just last summer.

Kijiji add, boat is on Georgian Bay if I remember right. Didn't bookmark it assumed I'd be able to find it again.

Pat...

Re: CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

I hear ya, not just an issue on Cs's. Seems to be a common point of failure on many of the "grid boats".

Seen and heard some interesting/horrific things when the crane sets a boat on the cradle...

Re: CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

Thanks for the reply, even though CS's are great boats I'm not willing to give up windward performance when there is a deep draft version.
Different if a boat is designed that way from the start,...

Re: mooring buoys Canada

I only cut boats loose in Nflnd. The Newfies know how to take a joke.

Terrible when a mooring pennant chafes through at 2am on a moonless night on an outgoing tide....

Re: CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

Thanks, I looked through there and read Pats review last night, nobody wants to talk about the shoal draft version for some reason.
This was a last resort long shot for getting some straight info....

Re: CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

I'll accept that I won't be happy with the performance of the boat and won't bother looking at it.
Thanks for the info.

Re: CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

Thanks Robert, I'm very familiar with the brand and have sailed the standard draft 33, plus dozens of 27 and 30's. If I wasn't a 99% of the time solo sailor the 36 would be near the top of my list....

Re: "Elevated moisture levels"

There is wet core then there is wet core.
Despite what the owners might think there probably isn't a boat of any age with a cored deck that doesn't have SOME moisture somewhere.
It depends on where...

CS 33 Shoal draft sailing qualities.

Can anyone tell me the good, bad or ugly about the sailing qualities of the shoal draft version?
Not exactly boat shopping but as they say the best deals appear when you aren't looking. (ya right...

Re: Great Lakes HIGH water levels

I'm not sure how much the snow pack had to do with last year, was pretty much an average winter for us in the business. The spring was horrible though, started raining and just didn't stop. Last fall...

Re: Sailing primer one-pager for newbie crew

Don't like things like this, above all I want peoples first day sailing to be fun. Basic safety rundown and off we go. Answer questions as they come up, if they want to"sail" give them a simple job...

Re: Red Diesel, Brexit and the EU

What does red fuel in Europe mean? Here (Canada) it doesn't mean duty free it means it hasn't had road taxes applied to it.

All that is fine, all I know as I sit her 50 miles north of Lk Ontario right on the Trent/Severn is those are the biggest snowbanks I've seen 10 years. Might have been a mild winter but speaking as...

Re: Lifting a 30ft-er on Cradle onto a Flatbed (without a crane)

More important do you have a class A or A restricted license to head down the road with a trailer over 10 000lbs?
G or D license won't cut it in Ontario. MTO or trained OPP WILL pull you off the...

Re: Looking at buying a C&C 29

Make sure to find out how wet the deck core is.
Pretty much a given that there will be some moisture, none of the holes through the deck were sealed from the factory, once the bedding compound...

Re: Moving Chainplates to hull exterior on Alberg30...
