I have found that it is much easier to carry a tap and die set, with conversion table for matric to us standard, and just retap the hole. In the US it will take more time to find one than to retap...

If the boat is documented with US documentation you may be able to avoid all taxes. I did for many years and if asked my reply was " in transit " Never had a state sticker either.
